Dual frequency VLBI polarimetric observations of 3C138

چکیده
We report VLBI polarimetric observations of the steep spectrum compact radio source 3C138. The relatively small range of Faraday rotation measured in the outer jet and hotspot region suggests that the jet is not being confined by a dense plasma. These results are inconsistent with the “frustrated jet” scenario and are consistent with the “young source” scenario. Evidence is given for extensive plasma in the immediate region of the nucleus. The nuclear region is depolarized at 1.7 GHz and the high value of -1781 + − 48 rad/m 2 is measured for the rotation measure at a projected distance of 22/h pc from the nucleus. This suggests that the ionized gas giving rise to the broad emission lines may be confined to the region immediately surrounding the nucleus. Comparison with earlier results indicates that two knots in the inner jet are separating at an apparent rate of 6.3c/h. 1

Detecting Changing Polarization Structures in Sagittarius A* with High Frequency Vlbi
Sagittarius A* is the source of near infrared, X-ray, radio, and (sub)millimeter emission associated with the supermassive black hole at the Galactic Center. In the submillimeter regime, Sgr A* exhibits time-variable linear polarization on timescales corresponding to <10 Schwarzschild radii of the presumed 4 × 106 M black hole. In previous work, we demonstrated the potential for total-intensity...
متن کاملThree-stage inversion improvement for forest height estimation using dual-PolInSAR data
This paper addresses an algorithm for forest height estimation using single frequency single baseline dual polarization radar interferometry data. The proposed method is based on a physical two layer volume over ground model and is represented using polarimetric synthetic aperture radar interferometry (PolInSAR) technique. The presented algorithm provides the opportunity to take advantages of t...

We present the results from the first quasi-simultaneous multi-frequency (2.3, 5.0, 8.4 and 15 GHz) Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) observations of a compact steep spectrum (CSS) superluminal source 3C138. For the first time, the spectral distribution of the components within its central 10 milli-arcsecond (mas) region was obtained. This enables us to identify the component at the west...
متن کاملDual - Frequency VSOP Observations of AO 0235 + 164
AO 0235+164 is a very compact, flat spectrum radio source identified as a BL Lac object at a redshift of z = 0.94. It is one of the most violently variable extragalactic objects at both optical and radio wavelengths. The radio structure of the source revealed by various ground-based VLBI observations is dominated by a nearly unresolved compact component at almost all available frequencies. Dual...

The recent VLBI observation of the Galactic center black hole candidate Sgr A* at 1.3mm shows source structure on event-horizon scales. This detection enables a direct comparison of the emission region with models of the accretion flow onto the black hole. We present the first results from time-dependent radiative transfer of general relativistic MHD simulation data, and compare simulated synch...
