چکیده

Bruguiera gymnorrhiza is widely distributed around the world, being found in tropical south and east Africa, southeastern Asia, Micronesia, Polynesia, Australia and Ryuku Islands. The bark is used as an abortifacient and for treating burns in the Solomon Islands and is used for malaria and diarrhea in Cambodia and in Indonesia and China respectively, and cure fish poisoning (Marshall Islands). Elsewhere the fruit is used to treat eye problems, and scrapped skin of the fruit to stop bleeding. Important chemicals found in the plant include bruguierin A, brugierol and isobrugierol, lupeol, beta-sitosterol, as well as ent-kaurane diterpenoids, gibberelins, steviol, apiculol and beta-amyrin.

Molecular phylogenetic relationships among four species of the mangrove tree genus Bruguiera (Rhizophoraceae), as revealed by chromosome and RAPD markers.

Analysis of karyotype, nuclear DNA content and RAPD markers were performed in four species of Bruguiera (Rhizophoraceae) of Bhitarkanika mangrove forests, Orissa, India. Detailed karyotype analysis revealing 2n=34 in B. cylindrica and 2n=36 in B. gymnorrhiza was reported for the first time and 2n=34 in B. parviflora and B. sexangula was confirmed. On the basis of the common types of chromosomes...

Antioxidant and hepatoprotective properties of Indian Sunderban mangrove Bruguiera gymnorrhiza L. leave

BACKGROUND Bruguiera gymnorrhiza L. (family Rhizophoraceae) is a true mangrove habitat in Indian Sunderban and traditionally uses for liver disorders. OBJECTIVES The aim was to evaluate antioxidant and hepatoprotective actions of leave extract of B. gymnorrhiza L. MATERIALS AND METHODS Hydro-methanolic extract of mangrove leaves (BR) was standardized using spectrophotometric and high-perfor...

Mid-Holocene Development of Mangrove Communities Featuring Rhizophoraceae and Geomorphic Change in the Richmond River Estuary, New South Wales, Australia

This paper describes the hitherto unreported occurrence of mid-Holocene mangrove deposits in the Richmond River estuary, southeastern Australia, thereby providing evidence for changes in the distribution and composition of mangrove communities within a subtropical estuarine system during the Holocene. Stratigraphic, radiocarbon and palynological evidence indicates that widespread development of...

Inferences of evolutionary history of a widely distributed mangrove species, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, in the Indo-West Pacific region

Inference of genetic structure and demographic history is fundamental issue in evolutionary biology. We examined the levels and patterns of genetic variation of a widespread mangrove species in the Indo-West Pacific region, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, using ten nuclear gene regions. Genetic variation of individual populations covering its distribution range was low, but as the entire species it was ...

Four New Cyclohexylideneacetonitrile Derivatives from the Hypocotyl of Mangrove (Bruguiera gymnorrhiza).

Four new cyclohexylideneacetonitrile derivatives 1-4, named menisdaurins B-E, as well as three known cyclohexylideneacetonitrile derivatives--menisdaurin (5), coclauril (6), and menisdaurilide (7)--were isolated from the hypocotyl of a mangrove (Bruguiera gymnorrhiza). The structures of the isolates were elucidated on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis. Compounds 1-7 showed anti-Hepa...
