The DFT as Convolution or Filtering ∗

چکیده

A major application of the FFT is fast convolution or fast ltering where the DFT of the signal is multiplied term-by-term by the DFT of the impulse (helps to be doing nite impulse response (FIR) ltering) and the time-domain output is obtained by taking the inverse DFT of that product. What is less well-known is the DFT can be calculated by convolution. There are several di erent approaches to this, each with di erent application.

How to Apply a Filter Defined in the Frequency Domain by a Continuous Function

We propose algorithms for filtering real-valued images, when the filter is provided as a continuous function defined in the Nyquist frequency domain. This problem is ambiguous because images are discrete entities and there is no unique way to define the filtering. We provide a theoretical framework designed to analyse the classical and computationally efficient filtering implementations based o...

An Efficient Parallel Adder Based Design for One Dimensional Discrete Fourier Transform

This paper presents a new efficient parallel adder (PA) based design for the one-dimensional (1-D) anylength discrete Fourier transform (DFT). Using the Chirp-Z transform, the author develops an algorithm which can formulate the 1-D any-length DFT as cyclic convolutions. This algorithm exhibits higher flexibility in the transform length as compared with the existing approaches to prime length D...

Fast DCT-based image convolution algorithms and application to image resampling and hologram reconstruction

Convolution and correlation are very basic image processing operations with numerous applications ranging from image restoration to target detection to image resampling and geometrical transformation. In real time applications, the crucial issue is the processing speed, which implies mandatory use of algorithms with the lowest possible computational complexity. Fast image convolution and correl...

DFT and FFT: An Algebraic View

In infinite, or non-periodic, discrete-time signal processing, there is a strong connection between the z-transform, Laurent series, convolution, and the discrete-time Fourier transform (DTFT) [10]. As one may expect, a similar connection exists for the DFT but bears surprises. Namely, it turns out that the proper framework for the DFT requires modulo operations of polynomials, which means work...

تشخیص و فیلترینگ هوشمند تصاویر نامتعارف به‌کمک شبکه‌های عصبی عمیق

Currently vast improvement of internet access and significant growth of web based broadcasters have resulted in distribution and sharing of informative resources such as images worldwide. Although this kind of sharing may bring many advantages, there are certain risks such as access of kids to porn images which should not be neglected. In fact, access to these images can be a threat to the cult...
