Total Transfer Capability In Deregulated Electricity Market Using Firefly Algorithm

The computation of Total Transfer Capability (TTC) is a significant task in the deregulated environment. In this paper, Firefly (FF) algorithm is used to solve the Optimal Power Flow (OPF) based TTC problem. Real power output of generators in source area and real power load in drop area can be adjusted to obtain the maximum transfer capability. The value of TTC can be made more accurate by considering Transmission Reliability Margin (TRM), in which single and multiline outages which forces the system to collapse are considered. In this paper, TTC is calculated with and without TRM using FF algorithm. The proposed method is tested on IEEE 30 bus system and the results are compared with other methods. The obtained results show that the proposed FF algorithm method yields better solution for TTC determination.
