چکیده

273 amino acids; 30133 Da. NKX2-2 is a member of the NK2 family of homeobox transcription factors. It has known roles in the development of the CNS as well as pancreatic beta cell differentiation. In the CNS NKX2-2 is known to be activated by SHH signaling which is important for its initial role in ventral patterning. NKX2-2 expression has additionally been shown to be critical for the differentiation of oligodendrocytes, and in fact necessary for this process to occur. In both instances, NKX2-2 mediated transcripitional repression is both necessary and sufficient for these processes to occur. Regulation of NKX2-2 expression in the pancreas is less well understood. NKX2-2 knock-out mice die soon after birth from diabetic complications as a result of a lack of fully differentiated pancreatic beta cells. While NKX22 mediated transcriptional repression has been demonstrated to be necessary and sufficient for its role in beta-cell differentiation, it remains unclear whether NKX2-2 mediated transcriptional activation is important for NKX2-2 function in adult beta-cells.

A novel leech homeobox gene, Lox10, is shown to encode a homeodomain sequence characteristic of a phyletically widespread NK-2 homeobox gene

Homeobox genes have been implicated in a number of regulatory processes associated with the embryonic patterning and cell differentiation of eukaryotes (McGinnis and Krumlauf, 1992). The homeobox is a 180 bp DNA sequence which encodes a 60 amino acid protein motif, the homeodomain, that has been shown to serve as the DNA binding site for a phyletically and functionally diverse class of transcri...

The NK-2 homeobox gene scarecrow (scro) is expressed in pharynx, ventral nerve cord and brain of Drosophila embryos

Members of the NK homeobox family have been widely conserved during evolution. Here we describe the sequence and expression of a novel Drosophila NK-2 homeobox gene, named scarecrow (scro), which shows considerable homology to vertebrate Nkx-2.1. During embryogenesis, scro expression is initially observed in the pharyngeal primordia and later maintained in the pharynx. During band germ retracti...

Prostate-specific and androgen-dependent expression of a novel homeobox gene.

A new member of the mouse NK family of homeobox genes that is related to Drosophila NK-3 has been identified. Expression of this gene, termed Nkx-3.1, is largely restricted to the prostate gland in adult animals. The level of Nkx-3.1 mRNA decreases markedly in response to castration, suggesting that its expression is androgen-dependent. In situ hybridization analyses demonstrated that expressio...

On the Strong Law of Large Numbers

N lim 1( 1: f(nkx)) = 0, N-N k_l or roughly speaking the strong law of large numbers holds for f(nkx) (in fact the authors prove that Ef(nkx)/k converges almost everywhere) . The question was raised whether (2) holds for any f(x) . This was known for the case nk=2k( 2) . In the present paper it is shown that this is not the case . In fact we prove the following theorem . THEOREM 1 . There exist...
