چکیده

We model receptors using a simple two-state model in which receptors exist in two states: a low kinase activity state we call “off” and a high kinase activity state, we call “on” (Swem et al., 2008; Keymer et al., 2006). Ligands, in our case autoinducers, act by binding to the receptor protein and changing the free energies and therefore the thermal occupancies of the two activity states. There are a total of four free-energy states with corresponding free energies: (i) on without ligand-bound E, (ii) on with ligand-bound E − log ([L]/K), (iii) off without ligand-bound E , and (iv) off with ligand bound E − log ([L]/K). In the absence of ligands, the receptors favor the on state but ligand causes switching to the off state. This implies that K K and that E < E . At equilibrium, the probability that a receptor is in the on state is a function of the difference in free energies between the “on” state and the “off” state:

Information processing and signal integration in bacterial quorum sensing

Bacteria communicate using secreted chemical signaling molecules called autoinducers in a process known as quorum sensing. The quorum-sensing network of the marine bacterium Vibrio harveyi uses three autoinducers, each known to encode distinct ecological information. Yet how cells integrate and interpret the information contained within these three autoinducer signals remains a mystery. Here, w...

INHIBITORY EFFECT OF STEVIA AND ROSA EXTRACTS AGAINST BACTERIAL QUORUM SENSING

Background & Aims: Quorum Sensing is a mechanism by which orchestrate the expression of many genes in bacteria. Therefore, any interference with the system will inhibit bacterial infections. The principal purpose of the research was to evaluate the potential of anti-quorum sensing of Rosa damascena and Stevia rebaudiana against Staphylococcus aureus. Materials & Methods: Ten isolates of Staphy...

Low concentrations of local honey modulate ETA expression, and quorum sensing related virulence in drug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa recovered from infected burn wounds

Objective(s): Honey’s ability to kill microorganisms and even eradication of chronic infections with drug-resistant pathogens has been documented by numerous studies. The present study is focused on the action of honey in its sub-inhibitory levels to impact on the pathogens coordinated behaviors rather than killing them. Materials and Methods:</strong...

In silico structural analysis of quorum sensing genes in Vibrio fischeri

Quorum sensing controls the luminescence of Vibrio fischeri through the transcriptional activator LuxR and the specific autoinducer signal produced by luxI. Amino acid sequences of these two genes were analyzed using bioinformatics tools. LuxI consists of 193 amino acids and appears to contain five α-helices and six ß-sheets when analyzed by SSpro8. LuxI belongs to the autoinducer synthetase fa...

Quorum quenching for the management of dental plaque microbes

In the present study, variation among different bacterial strains was observed in the plaques of tobacco chewers (TC) as compared to those from normal persons (non tobacco chewers) (NTC). Bacterial strain J1 (dominant in the plaques of NTC) did not initiate the process of adhesion (biofilm formation) until it appeared to have reached a required population density necessary for the production of...
