Determining the quantum numbers of excited heavy mesons

3. The central values of the branching ratios for D → Dγ and D → Dπ sum up to exactly 100 % [1]. Only closer inspection of both relevant experimental papers [2] reveals that this was one of the assumptions underlying the analyses. A similar assumption was made for D s , where again it was assumed that branching ratios for D s → D + s γ and D s → D + s π 0 sum to 100 % [3]. Although the current errors on the individual branching ratios are clearly higher than the branching ratios for the decay into a Dalitz pair which, as we will see below, are of the

Excited Heavy Mesons from Qcd Sum Rules
In this talk, we focus on the L = 1 excited charm mesons. It is heuristic to illustrate them in the following way, although it is not accurate (L is not a conserved quantity). For the ground state (L = 0) mesons which we are familiar with, there are two states with the J quantum numbers: D(0) and D(1). Their difference only lies in the heavy quark spin direction. For the L = 1 case, there are f...
متن کاملSpectroscopy and Strong Decays of Charmed Baryons
In the past years many new excited charmed baryon states have been discovered by BaBar, Belle and CLEO. In particular, B factories have provided a very rich source of charmed baryons both from B decays and from the continuum ee → cc̄. A new era for the charmed baryon spectroscopy is opened by the rich mass spectrum and the relatively narrow widths of the excited states. Experimentally and theore...
متن کاملSum rules for radiative and strong decays of heavy mesons.
We derive two model-independent sum rules relating the transition matrix elements for radiative and strong decays of excited heavy mesons to properties of the lowest-lying heavy mesons. The sum rule for the radiative decays is an analog of the Cabibbo-Radicati sum rule and expresses the sum of the radiative widths in terms of the isovector charge radius of the ground state heavy meson. Using mo...
متن کاملProperties of Orbitally Excited Heavy-Light Mesons
Orbitally excited heavy-light mesons are potentially important as tools for tagging the flavors and momenta of ground-state pseudoscalars detected through weak decays. We use heavy-quark symmetry supplemented by insights gleaned from potential models to estimate masses and widths of p-wave B, Bs, and Ds mesons. We generalize these results to higher excitations. PACS numbers: 14.40.Jz, 13.25.+m,...
متن کاملHybrid Baryons, a Brief Review
This contribution is a brief review of the status of hybrid baryons, which are hypothetical baryons that incorporate a gluonic excitation. We first summarize the status of hybrid mesons, since this closely related topic has seen considerable recent activity with the identification of two exotic candidates. Next we review theoretical expectations for the masses and quantum numbers of hybrid bary...
