What's new in cardiology

چکیده
A large randomized placebo-controlled trial (GISSI-AF) involving patients with prior atrial fibrillation (AF) found that the angiotensin receptor blocker valsartan did not reduce the incidence of recurrent AF [1]. The low prevalence of heart failure or left ventricular dysfunction may have contributed to the lack of effect since secondary analyses of randomized trials performed for other reasons found that the benefit of angiotensin inhibition was greatest in patients with these conditions. (See "ACE inhibitors, angiotensin II receptor blockers, and atrial fibrillation", section on GISSI-AF trial).

ARISTOTLE RE-LYs on the ROCKET. What's new in stroke prevention in patients with atrial fibrillation?
Warfarin has long been considered the gold standard for stroke prevention in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). Recently, three major trials comparing the efficacy and safety of new drugs: a thrombin inhibitor dabigatran and two inhibitors of factor Xa - rivaroxaban and apixaban, with that of warfarin, have been published. The aim of this paper is to present the main results of the RE-LY, ...

ontrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) is most commonly efined as a 25% increase in serum creatinine concentration rom the baseline value, or an absolute increase of at least .5 mg/dl, that appears within 48 h after the administration f radiographic contrast media in the absence of an alterative cause (1). Contrast-induced nephropathy is the third ost common cause of new acute renal failure in hospi...
