Normalization Discriminant Independent Component Analysis

چکیده
In face recognition, feature extraction techniques attempts to search for appropriate representation of the data. However, when the feature dimension is larger than the samples size, it brings performance degradation. Hence, we propose a method called Normalization Discriminant Independent Component Analysis (NDICA). The input data will be regularized to obtain the most reliable features from the data and processed using Independent Component Analysis (ICA). The proposed method is evaluated on three face databases, Olivetti Research Ltd (ORL), Face Recognition Technology (FERET) and Face Recognition Grand Challenge (FRGC). NDICA showed it effectiveness compared with other unsupervised and supervised techniques. Keywords—Face recognition, small sample size, regularization, independent component analysis.

Discrimination of Golab apple storage time using acoustic impulse response and LDA and QDA discriminant analysis techniques
ABSTRACT- Firmness is one of the most important quality indicators for apple fruits, which is highly correlated with the storage time. The acoustic impulse response technique is one of the most commonly used nondestructive detection methods for evaluating apple firmness. This paper presents a non-destructive method for classification of Iranian apple (Malus domestica Borkh. cv. Golab) according...
متن کاملA review on EEG based brain computer interface systems feature extraction methods
The brain – computer interface (BCI) provides a communicational channel between human and machine. Most of these systems are based on brain activities. Brain Computer-Interfacing is a methodology that provides a way for communication with the outside environment using the brain thoughts. The success of this methodology depends on the selection of methods to process the brain signals in each pha...

متن کاملEliminating Inter-speaker Variability Prior to Discriminant Transforms
This paper shows the impact of speaker normalization techniques such as vocal tract length normalization (VTLN) and speaker-adaptive training (SAT) prior to discriminant feature space transforms, such as LDA. We demonstrate that removing the inter-speaker variability by using speaker compensation methods results in improved discrimination as measured by the LDA eigenvalues and also in improved ...
متن کاملFeature reduction of hyperspectral images: Discriminant analysis and the first principal component
When the number of training samples is limited, feature reduction plays an important role in classification of hyperspectral images. In this paper, we propose a supervised feature extraction method based on discriminant analysis (DA) which uses the first principal component (PC1) to weight the scatter matrices. The proposed method, called DA-PC1, copes with the small sample size problem and has...
