XMM-Newton Detection of Pulsations and a Spectral Feature in the X-ray Emission of the Isolated Neutron Star 1RXS

چکیده
We report on the results of a deep XMM-Newton observation of RBS 1774, the most recent dim isolated neutron star candidate found in the ROSAT archive data. Spectral and timing analysis of the high-quality PN and MOS data confirm the association of this source with an isolated neutron star. The spectrum is thermal and blackbody-like, and there is evidence at a significance level > 4σ that the source is an X-ray pulsar, with spin period of 9.437 s. Spectral fitting reveils the presence of an absorption feature at∼ 0.7 keV, but at this level data do not have enough resolution to allow us to discriminate between an absorption line or an edge. We compare the newly measured properties of RBS 1774 with those of other known dim isolated neutron stars, and discuss possible interpretations for the absorption feature. Nustar and Xmm-newton Observations of the Neutron Star X-ray Binary 1rxs J180408.9-34205
We report on observations of the neutron star (NS) residing in the low-mass X-ray binary 1RXS J180408.934205 taken 2015 March by NuSTAR and XMM-Newton while the source was in the hard spectral state. We find multiple reflection features (Fe Kα detected with NuSTAR; N VII, O VII, and O VIII detected in the RGS) from different ionization zones. Through joint fits using the self consistent relativ...
متن کاملUnveiling the nature of RX J0002+6246 with XMM-Newton
The X-ray source RX J0002+6246 was discovered close to the supernova remnant CTB 1 in a ROSAT observation performed in 1992. The source phenomenology (soft spectrum, apparent lack of counterparts, possible pulsations at 242 ms, hints for surrounding diffuse emission) led to interpret it as an isolated neutron star in a new supernova remnant. We have analysed an archival XMM-Newton observation p...
متن کاملThe Magnificent Seven : Magnetic fields and surface temperature distributions
Presently seven nearby radio-quiet isolated neutron stars discovered in ROSAT data and characterized by thermal X-ray spectra are known. They exhibit very similar properties and despite intensive searches their number remained constant since 2001 which led to their name “The Magnificent Seven”. Five of the stars exhibit pulsations in their X-ray flux with periods in the range of 3.4 s to 11.4 s...
متن کاملXmm-newton Discovery of 7 S Pulsations in the Isolated Neutron Star Rx J1856.5–3754
Thanks to the high counting statistics provided by a recent XMM-Newton observation of RX J1856.5–3754 we have discovered that this isolated neutron star pulsates at a period of 7.055 s. This confirms that RX J1856.5–3754 is similar in nature to the the other six thermally emitting, nearby neutron stars discovered in soft X–rays with ROSAT. The pulsations are detected at consistent periods in se...
متن کاملDiscovery of Pulsations and a Possible Spectral Feature in the X-ray Emission from Rotating Radio Transient J1819–1458
PSR J1819–1458 is a rotating radio transient (RRAT) source with an inferred surface dipole magnetic field strength of 5×1013 G and a 4.26-s spin period. We present XMM-Newton observations of the X-ray counterpart of this source, CXOU J181939.1–145804, in which we identify pulsations and a possible spectral feature. The X-ray pulsations are at the period predicted by the radio ephemeris, providi...
