Multi-scale modeling of Claus thermal furnace and waste heat boiler using detailed kinetics

چکیده
The modeling of thermal reaction furnaces of Sulfur Recovery Units (SRUs) is a rather complex problem since it involves different modeling scales such as the kinetic/molecular scale, the reactor scale, and the chemical process scale. This work introduces the multi-scale modeling approach to characterize the kinetic and reaction engineering scales for the thermal section of SRUs, involving the reactor furnace and the waste heat boiler. Specifically, also the waste heat boiler is modeled using detailed kinetics to characterize the recombination effects, which cannot be neglected any longer since they significantly eywords: ulfur recovery aste heat boiler hermal furnace artial oxidation ecombination effects influence the outlet compositions. The proposed models are validated on experimental and literature data for the kinetic scale. The reactor scale is validated on the industrial data coming from SRUs operating in Nanjing and Mumbai plants. © 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

متن کاملModeling and Simulation of Claus Unit Reaction Furnace
Reaction furnace is the most important part of the Claus sulfur recovery unit and its performance has a significant impact on the process efficiency. Too many reactions happen in the furnace and their kinetics and mechanisms are not completely understood; therefore, modeling reaction furnace is difficult and several works have been carried out on in this regard so far. Equilibrium models are co...

This work is carried out to investigate combustion characteristics of a dual fuel (diesel-gas) engine at part loads, using a quasi-dimensional multi zone combustion model (MZCM) for the combustion of diesel fuel and a single zone model with detailed chemical kinetics for the combustion of natural gas fuel. Chemical kinetic mechanisms consist of 184 reactions with 50 species. This combustion mod...
متن کاملNumerical Modeling of Pollution Formation in Waste-to-energy Systems Using Computational Fluid Dynamics
This investigation has been undertaken to better understand pollutant formation in Waste-to-Energy (WTE) systems by using Computation Fluid Dynamics (CFD). An above-grate gas phase only model was built and calculated in FLUENTTM with the intent of specifically studying the factors that influence the formation of NOx. Results are shown for a typical reciprocating-grate WTE boiler operating on mu...
متن کاملMeasurements and Modeling of Flue Height Influence on Air Pollution Emissions and Thermal Efficiency of Natural Draught Gas Fired Boilers
This paper presents and analyses results from experimental and CFD work undertaken on a 24 kW domestic natural-draught gas fired boiler. The effect of chimney height on boiler flue gases is being considered to address the need for increasing concern over environmental safety as well as saving of energy. A multi-component analysis computer (DELTA 2000 CD) is used to analyze the flue gases. 3D nu...
