چکیده

Global total water vapour columns have been derived from measurements of the Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment 2 (GOME-2) on MetOp. For this purpose, the Air Mass Corrected Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy (AMC-DOAS) method has been adapted, having previously been applied successfully to GOME (on ERS-2) and SCIAMACHY (SCanning Imaging Absorption spectroMeter for Atmospheric CHartographY, on ENVISAT) data. Comparisons between the derived GOME-2 and SCIAMACHY water vapour columns show a good overall agreement. This gives confidence that the temporal series of water vapour columns from GOME-type instruments (GOME/ERS-2, SCIAMACHY/ENVISAT), which began in 1995, is successfully continued by the MetOp instrumentation until at least 2020. The enhanced temporal and spatial resolution of GOME-2 enables the analysis of diurnal variations in the polar regions. This is especially important because atmospheric data sources in the polar regions are generally sparse. As an exemplary application, daily water vapour total columns over the polar research station Ny Ålesund (785519 N/115633 E) are investigated. At this latitude GOME-2 yields about six data points during daylight hours at varying local times. From these data diurnal variations of water vapour have been successfully retrieved.

A Combined Gome and Sciamachy Global Water Vapour Data Set

A new version of the Air Mass Corrected Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy (AMC-DOAS) approach for the retrieval of water vapour total column amounts from measurements in the spectral region around 700 nm has been applied to measurements of the Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment (GOME) on ERS-2 and the SCanning Imaging Absorption spectroMeter for Atmospheric CHartographY (SCIAMACHY) o...

A fast H2O total column density product from GOME – Validation with in-situ aircraft measurements

Atmospheric water vapour is the most important greenhouse gas which is responsible for about 2/3 of the natural greenhouse effect, therefore changes in atmospheric water vapour in a changing climate (the water vapour feedback) is subject to intense debate. H2O is also involved in many important reaction cycles of atmospheric chemistry, e.g. in the production of the OH radical. Thus, long time s...

Validation of GOME-2/MetOp-A total water vapour column using reference radiosonde data from the GRUAN network

The main goal of this paper is to validate the total water vapour column (TWVC) measured by the Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment-2 (GOME-2) satellite sensor and generated using the GOME Data Processor (GDP) retrieval algorithm developed by the German Aerospace Centre (DLR). For this purpose, spatially and temporally collocated TWVC data from highly accurate sounding measurements for the perio...

ATSR Total Water Vapour Content Retrieval and Comparison with GOME and ATSR Microwave Sounder Data

The Water Vapour estimation from satellite data has been widely discussed in past years and different IR based techniques have been approached by various authors. In our work we estimate the total content of water vapour over sea surface by using ATSR-2 (Along Track Scanning Radiometer) Infra Red imagery. Two different retrieval methods have been applied: one proposed by Ottlé [1] in 1997 and t...
