Some observations on the caecal microflora of the chickens during experimental acute fowl typhoid

چکیده
Paired caeca are situated at the junction of the small and large intestine and they normally contain a stable population of bacteria of very many different types [1, 6]. The flow rate is low in these regions which would allow for greater microbial multiplication in the lumen [18]. It is impossible to make detail microbial analysis of this heterogenous composite because the estimation of the most representative bacteria will do satisfactory notion for gastrointestinal microflora [20]. The effect of Salmonella Gallinarum infection on caecal microflora of the chickens have not been investigated. The purpose of this study was to provide quantitative and qualitative information in the microflora of the caecum in normal chickens and to evaluate the changes in the microflora of the caecum following peroral inoculation with Salmonella Gallinarum.

Bacterial colonization and endotoxin activity during experimental acute fowl typhoid in chickens.
Bacterial colonization and endotoxin production were investigated before and after experimental Salmonella gallinarum infection in 8-week-old female broiler chickens. These parameters were assayed by means of colony forming units test (CFU) and the Limulus Amebocyte Lysate test (LAL), respectively. Birds were infected per os with 1,5 x 10(9) CFU/ml of wild strain of S. gallinarum isolated from ...
متن کاملReproduction of fowl typhoid by respiratory challenge with Salmonella Gallinarum.
Fowl typhoid is a disease of adult chickens and is caused by Salmonella Gallinarum infection via the alimentary tract. The experimental reproduction of fowl typhoid per os (PO) requires artificial conditions to minimize the effect of gastric acid, and several Salmonella serovars have been known to be transmitted via the respiratory route. Therefore, we have hypothesized the existence of a respi...
متن کاملClinical and hematological effects of Salmonella gallinarum endotoxin in cockerels
A study was undertaken to investigate the effect of Salmonella gallinarum endotoxin on clinical symptoms and some haematological changes in mature six-month-old cockerels. Salmonella gallinarum endotoxin caused characteristic clinical symptoms, severe olygocytic hypochromic anaemia, leucocytosis and increased phagocytic function of leucocytes. Heterophilia was associated with relative lyphopeni...
متن کاملContribution of Salmonella gallinarum large plasmid toward virulence in fowl typhoid.
Four strains of Salmonella gallinarum isolated from independent cases of fowl typhoid all possessed both an 85-kilobase and a 2.5-kilobase plasmid. Each plasmid was eliminated in turn from one of the strains by transposon labeling and curing at 42 degrees C. Elimination of the small plasmid had no effect on the high virulence of the strain for newly hatched and 2-week-old chickens. Whereas oral...

This study was conducted to examine the effects of dietary cellulose levels on growth, nitrogen utilization, the retention time of diets in the digestive tract, and caecal microflora of 2-month-old Single Comb White Leghorn male chickens fed 3 purified diets that contained 0, 3.5% and 10% cellulose in equal amount of nutrients for 7 days. Body weight gain and nitrogen utilization were significa...
