Acute effects of whole body vibration on foot sole sensitivity and plantar pressures during gait initiation

چکیده
Background Sensory receptors in the skin of the foot sole show a sitespecific sensitivity to local pressures and vibrations [1] and provide feedback during foot loading activities. Impaired plantar feedback has been shown to affect plantar pressures and kinematics during gait [2-5]. The present study investigated the acute effects of whole body vibration on plantar sensitivity and foot loading during gait.

Long term whole body vibration training has no effects on plantar foot sensitivity and balance control
Background Below-threshold vibration together with low-level mechanical noise (stochastic resonance) is known to have positive effects on plantar foot sensitivity and balance control [1]. However, the effects of abovethreshold stimulation on both variables are still not proved. The goal of this study was to investigate the effects of whole body vibration (WBV) training, characterized by above t...
متن کاملSubject-specific finite element modelling of the human foot complex during walking: sensitivity analysis of material properties, boundary and loading conditions
The objective of this study was to develop and validate a subject-specific framework for modelling the human foot. This was achieved by integrating medical image-based finite element modelling, individualised multi-body musculoskeletal modelling and 3D gait measurements. A 3D ankle-foot finite element model comprising all major foot structures was constructed based on MRI of one individual. A m...
متن کاملThe effect of shoe-sole hardness on plantar pressure and comfort in older people with forefoot pain
Plantar forefoot pain is common in older people and is related to increased peak pressures under the foot during gait. Variations in the hardness of the shoe sole may therefore influence both the magnitude of loading under the foot and the perceived comfort of the shoe in this population. The aim of this investigation was to determine the effect of varying shoe sole hardness on plantar pressure...

A 49-year male patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus with diabetic foot syndrome was evaluated by comprehensive diabetic foot assessment. Photobiomodulation therapy (low-level laser therapy) was prescribed for neuropathic pain and symptoms with scanning and probe method for 10 sessions. Customized insoles were recommended for redistributing the plantar pressures and reducing stress on the diabe...
متن کاملThe effect of walking speed on peak plantar pressure.
BACKGROUND Plantar pressure measurements often are used as a tool to evaluate pathologic gait. Previous studies, often done at self-selected walking speeds, have used peak plantar pressure to try to predict ulcer formation, compare surgical outcomes, and evaluate orthotic device efficacy. However, the relationship between walking speed and plantar pressures at specific plantar regions has not b...
