چکیده

Spheroidal and fritted particles of three size classes from closein fallout samples collected from Small Boy were separated by hand. Analysis of spheroidal and fritted groups fror the > lU00-u and the 35O-7OO-U size classes showed that spheroidal particles had higher specific activities than the fritted particles; however this difference was less pronounced for the smaller size groups. Contrary to reported observations on debris from a high-yield coral-surface bnrst, all groups showed comparable degrees of fractionation for radionuclides with raregas precursors. The Small Boy shot conditions were unique, however, and this ,homogeneity may not occur in more typical silicate-surface bursts. Ru^°° and Sbl5 were alike in behavior, but the data for these radionuclides do not correlate like those for rare-gas descendants. The necessity of adopting multidimensional correlations remains to be evaluated.

Thermomagnetic Force for Small Spheroidal Particles '1'

The thermomagnetic force for small spheroidal particles is given in the Waldmann limit. In this limit the force is proportional to the surface area of the particle, and depends on the gas pressure p and on the magnetic field strength H only via H/p. For the gases HD, CH 4 , CO and N2 the ratio of the thermomagnetic and thermal forces is calculated from Senftleben-Beenakker effect data. It is po...

Tunable Plasmonic Nanoparticles Based on Prolate Spheroids

Metallic nanoparticles can exhibit very large optical extinction in the visible spectrum due to localized surface plasmon resonance. Spherical plasmonic nanoparticles have been the subject of numerous studies in recent years due to the fact that the scattering response of spheres can be analytically evaluated using Mie theory. However a major disadvantage of metallic spherical nanoparticles is ...

The Temperature of Nonspherical Circumstellar Dust Grains

The temperatures of prolate and oblate spheroidal dust grains in the envelopes of stars of various spectral types are calculated. Homogeneous particles with aspect ratios a/b ≤ 10 composed of amorphous carbon, iron, dirty ice, various silicates, and other materials are considered. The temperatures of spherical and spheroidal particles were found to vary similarly with particle size, distance to...

Radiosynthesis and evaluation of ytterbium-175 labeled bleomycin as therepeutic agent

Introduction: Bleomycins are DNA-binding biomolecules, which can be used as targeted therapy carriers when labeled with particle-emitters such as Yb-175. In this work the development of Yb-175 bleomycin (175Yb-BLM) has been reported. Methods: Yb-175 chloride was obtained by thermal neutron irradiation (3 × 1013 n.cm-2.s-1) of natural Yb2O<...

Retention behavior of metal particle dispersions in aqueous and nonaqueous carriers in thermal field-flow fractionation.

Until quite recently, theories on thermophoresis of particles predicted very low thermophoretic velocities of metal particles in liquids. This prediction was based on the understanding that the very high thermal conductivities of metals relative to most liquid media resulted in quite low temperature gradients across the metal particle thereby leading to low net force on the particle. In this pa...
