چکیده
© 2018 Annals of Pediatric Cardiology | Published by Wolters Kluwer Medknow Sir, The paper by El-Saiedi et al. is greatly appreciated for performing cost-effectiveness analysis of different devices for occlusion of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) in children.[1] Including “regular” PDA occlude (ADO I) in a similar study would be interesting. It is generally considered cheaper. Aortic protrusion with ADO I is less than with ADO II.[2] When effectiveness alone is considered, ADO I was found to be the device of choice for PDA >3 mm with good success;[3] although, it was before the advent of ADO II. Comparison of ADO I, II and ADO II additional sizes showed that ADO I was convenient for mediumand large-sized PDA.[4]

Transcatheter closure of patent ductus arteriosus.
More than three decades have passed since the introduction of transcatheter devices for closure of patent ductus arteriosus, and many occluders have been made available since then. The ideal requirements of any procedure are a user-friendly technique, optimum success rate, no residual anomaly, minimal morbidity/mortality, and comparability or superiority to the existing conventional modality of...
متن کاملIntravenous Paracetamol and Patent Ductus Arteriosus Closure
Background: Standard medical treatments for patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) closure are, including indomethacin/ibuprofen and surgical ligation. Nowadays, a new strategy to close PDA is the use of paracetamol. The present study aimed to describe the use of intravenous (IV) paracetamol for PDA closure in neonates who present a contraindication to ibuprofen or ibuprofen failure with no possibility...
متن کاملCost-effectiveness analysis of different devices used for the closure of small-to-medium-sized patent ductus arteriosus in pediatric patients
AIMS In this study, we examined the differences in cost and effectiveness of various devices used for the closure of small to medium sized patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). SETTING AND DESIGN We retrospectively studied 116 patients who underwent closure of small PDAs between January 2010 and January 2015. SUBJECTS AND METHODS Three types of devices were used: the Amplatzer duct occluder (ADO)...

Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is a persistent patency of a vessel normally present in the fetus that connects the pulmonary arterial system to the aorta. The ductus arteriosus fails to close at birth when breathing commences and placental blood circulation is removed. Closure of the ductus arteriosus arises in response to decline pulmonary vascular resistance and increased systemic vascular re...

Background and Objective: Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents are the treatment of choice for ductal closure in premature newborn. This study evaluates early and late outcome, as well as the effectiveness of oral ibuprofen in the treatment of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) in premature infants. Methods: In this clinical trial, all preterm infants below 37 weeks, with documentation of PDA w...
