Group categories and their field theories

چکیده

A group–category is an additively semisimple category with a monoidal product structure in which the simple objects are invertible. For example in the category of representations of a group, 1–dimensional representations are the invertible simple objects. This paper gives a detailed exploration of “topological quantum field theories” for group–categories, in hopes of finding clues to a better understanding of the general situation. Group–categories are classified in several ways extending results of Frölich and Kerler. Topological field theories based on homology and cohomology are constructed, and these are shown to include theories obtained from group–categories by Reshetikhin–Turaev constructions. Braided– commutative categories most naturally give theories on 4–manifold thickenings of 2–complexes; the usual 3–manifold theories are obtained from these by normalizing them (using results of Kirby) to depend mostly on the boundary of the thickening. This is worked out for group–categories, and in particular we determine when the normalization is possible and when it is not. AMS Classification 18D10; 81R50, 55B20

Structured Topological Field Theories via Crossed Simplicial Groups

We show how the framework of crossed simplicial groups may be used to provide a classification of topological field theories on open cobordism categories defined by reductions of the structure group to a planar Lie group. Such theories are equivalent to algebras equipped with a group action and a non-degenerate trace satisfying certain invariance requirements which generalize the notion of a fr...

Near-group fusion categories and their doubles

A near-group fusion category is a fusion category C where all but 1 simple objects are invertible. Examples of these include the Tambara-Yamagami categories and the even sectors of the D (1) 5 and E6 subfactors, though there are infinitely many others. We classify the near-group fusion categories, and compute their doubles and the modular data relevant to conformal field theory. Among other thi...

The Situationist Urban Design; Rules and Principles

From a general perspective, urbanism can be assumed as a bipolar world. On one hand, large-scale plans formulated by official organizations are shaping urban environment and the entirety of our cities; on the other hand, social activists and artists, active in the field of cities, are making an effort to give it a human character. According to De Certo (1984), the first approach to city, adopte...

Investigating the Cognitive Theories of Career Development

Objective: There are several theories proposed on the career development and researchers have classified these theories in different categories. Career-related cognitive theory is one of the latest categories including two theories: social cognitive theory of career development and cognitive information processing. The current study seeks to compare these two cognitive theories of career develo...
