چکیده

Photosynthesis, Respiration, Blue-Green Algae, Arrhenius Plots, Phase Transition Temperatures Photosynthetic and respiratory electron-transport reactions by the blue-green alga, Anabaena variabilis, exhibit a strict temperature dependence in vivo as well as in the cell-free system. The ratio of respiratory oxygen uptake in the dark and oxygen evolution in the light is high after growth at low temperatures (20 °C) and low after growth under optimum temperatures (28 °C). Respiration and photosynthesis show different break temperatures in the Arrhenius plots. Increase of growth temperature yields higher break points for photosynthetic or respiratory electron transport as well. These data are taken as evidence that photosynthetic and respiratory electron transport chains are embedded in different membrane areas.

Effects of Temperature on Electron Transport in Arum maculatum Mitochondria.

The effects of temperature upon the respiratory pathways of Arum maculatum mitochondria have been studied. The alternate oxidase sustained a greater proportion of the total respiration at low temperatures than at higher temperatures. Arrhenius plots of respiratory activities show two discontinuities, one at 14 degrees C and one at 21 degrees C. The lower temperature discontinuity was associated...

Electron transport and light-harvesting switches in cyanobacteria

Cyanobacteria possess multiple mechanisms for regulating the pathways of photosynthetic and respiratory electron transport. Electron transport may be regulated indirectly by controlling the transfer of excitation energy from the light-harvesting complexes, or it may be more directly regulated by controlling the stoichiometry, localization, and interactions of photosynthetic and respiratory elec...

Co-existence of photosynthetic and respiratory activities in cyanobacterial thylakoid membranes.

The thylakoid membranes of cyanobacteria are the major sites of respiratory electron transport as well as photosynthetic light reactions. The photosynthetic and respiratory electron transport chains share some components, and their presence in the same membrane opens up the possibility for a variety of "unorthodox" electron transport routes. Many of the theoretically possible electron transport...

Relationships between the Transition of the Physical Phase of Membrane Lipids and Photosynthetic Parameters in Anacystis nidulans and Lettuce and Spinach Chloroplasts.

The transition of the physical phase of lipids in membrane fragments of a blue-green alga Anacystis nidulans was studied by a spin labeling technique. The maximum hyperfine splitting of the electron spin resonance spectrum of the N-oxyl-4', 4'-dimethyloxazolidine derivative of 5-ketostearic acid plotted against the reciprocal of the absolute temperature gave a discontinuity point that was chara...

Comparative Study on the Effect of Water Stress and Rootstock on Photosynthetic Function in Pistachio (Pistacia vera L.) Trees

The aim of this study is to evaluate the  effects of water deficit stress on chlorophyll fluorescence (CF) characteristics of photosystem II (PSII) and pigment contents in two rootstock seedlings (Pistacia atlantica L. and P. khinjuk L.). Three levels of soil water potential (Ψs) was used, including WWD (-0.05 MPa), MWD (-0.7 MPa) and SWD (-1.5 MPa). It was found that water stress increased the...
