Point-of-Care Testing for Cardiac Biomarkers in the ED: A Blueprint for Implementation

چکیده

In this EMCREG-International newsletter, we would like to provide for you the evidence basis, and a “blueprint,” for implementing point-of care (POC) laboratory testing in your emergency department. In particular, cardiac biomarkers such as myoglobin, CKMB, troponin and brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) are integral for clinical decision-making in the emergency setting. Risk stratifi cation for acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients can be performed with POC testing. Identifi cation of high-risk ACS patients for disposition to the coronary care unit or the cardiac catheterization laboratory, as well as to provide guideline-based antithrombotic and anti-platelet therapy, can be facilitated with POC testing. Typically, time savings of an hour or more can be realized with POC testing compared to sending the test to a central laboratory for analysis.

Cardiac Biomarkers for Early Detection of Cardiac Involvement in Children with Kawasaki Disease: A Cross-Sectional Study

Background: Kawasaki disease (KD) is one of the most prevalent vasculitis diseases in children and can bring about serious cardiovascular complications. Early detection of cardiac involvement in KD can play an essential role in managing and preventing the cardiac sequels. We aimed to evaluate the applicability and diagnostic accuracy of cardiac biomarkers including car...

In the emergency department (ED), it is extremely important to rapidly identify patients with an acute coronary syndrome (ACS) or acute heart failure (AHF) to improve overall outcomes. In an environment strained by an increasing volume of patients, risk stratification must be performed making effective use of available resources. Many hospital-wide processes are required to optimize efforts tow...

Point-of-Care Cardiac Troponin Testing as a Timely and Cost Effective Measure in Diagnosis of Acute Myocardial Infarction

In patients with chest pain of suspected cardiac etiology or possible acute coronary syndrome (ACS), cardiac biomarkers are used to aid in diagnosis, treatment, and risk stratification. Cardiac troponin (cTn) point-of-care testing (POCT) exists to assist clinicians and facilities to rapidly make decisions, increase accuracy of diagnosis, increase emergency department (ED) throughput, and decrea...
