چکیده

The ATLAS Collaboration is embarked in a detailed study of the dense and opaque extended system formed in Pb-Pb collisions at LHC. Comparisons of jet yields obtained in different classes of events confirm the presence of strong energy loss of partons in the medium at this energy. The study of jet shapes provides detailed information on the flow of energy as partons traverse the medium.

New results on fully corrected dijet asymmetry in Pb+Pb collisions with ATLAS

The phenomenon of events containing highly asymmetric dijet pairs is one of the most striking results in heavy ion physics, providing the first direct observation of in-medium jet energy loss at the Large Hadron Collider. Detailed measurements of a centrality-dependent dijet imbalance in 2.76 TeV Pb+Pb collisions using data collected by the ATLAS detector in the 2011 LHC heavy ion run are prese...

Heavy Ion Physics Prospects with the ATLAS Detector at the LHC

The next great energy frontier in Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions is quickly approaching with the completion of the Large Hadron Collider and the ATLAS experiment is poised to make important contributions in understanding QCD matter at extreme conditions. While designed for high-pT measurements in high-energy p+ p collisions, the detector is well suited to study many aspects of heavy ion coll...

Jet Physics in Heavy Ion Collisions with Compact Muon Solenoid detector at the LHC

The status of CMS jet simulations and physics analysis in heavy ion collisions is presented. Jet reconstruction and high-pT particle tracking in the high multiplicity environment of heavy ion collisions at the LHC using the CMS calorimetry and tracking system are described. The Monte Carlo tools used to simulate jet quenching are discussed.

We discuss the potential information about highly excited QCD-matter provided by medium-induced partonic energy loss, known as " jet quenching ". In particular, with its large acceptance hadronic and electromagnetic calorimetry, the Compact Muon Solenoid detector at LHC collider is a promising device to study these effects. We present physics simulations of observables such as the jet distribut...

Physics with Jets at the Lhc ∗

The CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is designed to study pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 14 TeV and luminosity of 10cms. The GHz collision rate with 20 interactions per 25 ns bunch crossing places unprecedented demands on detector performance. This report will concentrate on jet physics anticipated from the two big general purpose detectors, a toroidal large hadron collider apparat...
