چکیده

This paper presents two solutions within a Bayesian framework to the problem of selecting a subset of populations of breaking strengths from a specified finite set of them that will contain the one with the smallest or (equivalently from a mathematical perspective) largest α quantile. Independent random samples from each are assumed. Estimates of these quantiles are then used to specify conservative design values for engineering applications. As ASTM, Inc standards require in some cases a nonparametric approach, we propose a semiparametric and nonparametric alternatives in the ensuing sections. The paper wraps up with an empirical comparison of the methods followed by conclusions.

Bayesian Estimation of Reliability of the Electronic Components Using Censored Data from Weibull Distribution: Different Prior Distributions

The Weibull distribution has been widely used in survival and engineering reliability analysis. In life testing experiments is fairly common practice to terminate the experiment before all the items have failed, that means the data are censored. Thus, the main objective of this paper is to estimate the reliability function of the Weibull distribution with uncensored and censored data by using B...

Apportioning Multiple Chemical Species to Sources

This paper adapts a multivariate empirical Bayes hierarchical predictor for use in imputing concentrations of chemical species measured over time, to their sources. The monitoring sites where these measurements are taken need not all measure the same suite of concentrations so that some data can be missing-by-design. These too may be imputed by the posterior predictive distribution derived in t...

An Appraisal of Bayesian Melding for Physical-Statistical Modeling

In this technical report, we review the Bayesian melding model, proposed by Fuentes and Raftery (2005). We give technical details about using Gibbs sampling algorithm to fit the model and critically assess the model through various simulation studies and applications of combing ozone measurements with simulated ozone levels from deterministic model AQM. keywords: Bayesian melding, Bayesian hier...

Variable Selection in Semiparametric Regression Modeling By

In this paper, we are concerned with how to select significant variables in semiparametric modeling. Variable selection for semiparametric regression models consists of two components: model selection for nonparametric components and selection of significant variables for the parametric portion. Thus, semiparametric variable selection is much more challenging than parametric variable selection ...

Bayesian modeling of bathtub shaped hazard rate using various Weibull extensions and related issues of model selection

Bathtub shape is one of the most important behaviors of the hazard rate function that is quite common in lifetime data analysis. Such shapes are actually the combination of three different shapes and, as such, there have been several proposals to model such behavior. One such proposal is to combine at most three different distributions, often the Weibull or some similar model, separately for de...
