Nortel's Virtual Network Switching (VNS) Overview
نویسندگان
چکیده
VNS is a multi-protocol switching architecture that provides COSsensitive packet switching, reduces the complexity of operating protocols like PPP and frame relay, provides logical networks and traffic segregation for Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), security and traffic engineering, enables efficient WAN broadcasting and multicasting, and reduces address space requirements. VNS reduces the number of routing hops over the WAN by switching packets based on labels.

Customizable virtual private network service with QoS
In this paper, we propose and implementVirtual Network Service (VNS), a value-added network service for deploying virtual private networks (VPN) in a managed wide area IP network. The key feature of VNS is its capability of providing a customer with a VPN that is customizable with management capabilities and performance properties comparable to a dedicated physical network. In addition, VNS ens...
متن کاملAn overview of vertical handover techniques: Algorithms, protocols and tools
Wireless technologies, under the ‘‘Anywhere, Anytime’’ paradigm, offer users the promise of being always attached to the network. Mobile devices enabled with multiple wireless technologies make possible to maintain seamless connectivity in highly dynamic scenarios such as vehicular networks (VNs), switching from one wireless network to another by using vertical handover techniques (VHO). In thi...
متن کاملExperimental Demonstration of Network Virtualization and Resource Flexibility in the COMCON Project
In the recent past, Network Virtualization (NV) received much attention. Nevertheless, Virtual Networks (VNs) are still not available on the market. The consortium of the COntrol and Management of COexisting Networks (COMCON) project examines the potential interactions in vertically and horizontally divided markets and evaluates the applicability of existing technologies, like Generalized Multi...
متن کاملOptimal offline virtual network embedding with rent-at-bulk aspects
Network virtualization techniques allow for the coexistence of many virtual networks (VNs) jointly sharing the resources of an underlying substrate network. The Virtual Network Embedding problem (VNE) arises when looking for the most profitable set of VNs to embed onto the substrate. In this paper, we address the offline version of the problem. We propose a Mixed-Integer Linear Programming form...
متن کاملChallenges in Resource Allocation in Network Virtualization
Virtualization promises to overcome the weaknesses of the current Internet and to act as a torch bearer technology for enabling innovative network architectures. However, a fundamental problem in instantiation of Virtual Networks (VNs) is an optimal allocation of resources offered by a physical IP network. In order to solve this NP-hard problem, heuristics have been proposed in literature. This...
