چکیده

This study explores the amplitude and phase transmission of audio-frequency sound through a waveguide side-loaded with a series of closely spaced and sequentially tuned Helmholtz resonators. This system exhibits a series of acoustic bandgaps due to the Helmholtz resonance and standing-wave cavity modes. The bandgaps are achieved in a physically compact manner in that the resonators are spaced by much less than a wavelength. The response of the Helmholtz resonator-loaded waveguide is described by a simple adaptation of an existing theory. Finally, within the forbidden transmission regions the system exhibits narrow bands of negative group delay. VC 2011 American Institute of Physics. [doi: 10.1063/1.3595677]

Sustainable sonic crystal made of resonating bamboo rods.

The acoustic transmission coefficient of a resonant sonic crystal made of hollow bamboo rods is studied experimentally and theoretically. The plane wave expansion and multiple scattering theory (MST) are used to predict the bandgap in transmission coefficient of a non-resonant sonic crystal composed of rods without holes. The predicted results are validated against experimental data for the aco...

Acoustic Metamaterial Design and Applications By

We proposed an approach to construct a 2D Fresnel lenses by acoustic network. This lens iscomposed of an array of Helmholtz resonators. The resonance at individual resonators results ineffective focusing even the plate has subwavelength thickness. The FEM simulation resultspresented the ultrasonic wave propagation through the lenses together with the resultingdiffraction pat...

Negative acoustic index metamaterial

Acoustic metamaterials utilizing periodic deep subwavelength resonators can attain negative acoustic properties unavailable in nature. We have developed a negative acoustic index metamaterial for water that combines Helmholtz and rod-spring resonators to control effective bulk modulus and mass density, respectively. Effective properties extracted from full-wave simulations of our metamaterial s...

Ultra-Fast All-Optical Half Subtractor Based on Photonic Crystal Ring Resonators

Abstract: In this paper, we aim to design and propose a novel structure for all-opticalhalf subtractor based on the photonic crystal. The structure includes two optical switches, one power splitter, and one power combiner. The optical switches are made of theresonant rings which use the nonlinear rods for dropping operation. The footprint of thedesigned structure is about...

Dissipative elastic metamaterials for broadband wave mitigation at subwavelength scale

In this paper, an elastic metamaterial with multiple dissipative resonators is presented for broadband wave mitigation by properly utilizing interactions from resonant motions and viscoelastic effects of the constitutive material. The working mechanism of the metamaterial to suppress broadband waves is clearly revealed in a dissipative mass-in-mass lattice system through both negative effective...
