Cimetidine and peptic ulceration in a Meckel's diverticulum.

چکیده
Sir, Injury to the fingertip or toe often results in a subungual haematoma. Some of these patients, and we do not know the exact proportion, wil have sustained a fracture of the terminal phalanx. If the haematoma is painful, the usual treatment is to trephine the nail.' Presumably this converts a closed fracture (if present) to a compound one. This being the case, it seems possible that trephining (or not trephining) may increase the potential for osteomyelitis. Local inquiries suggest that such a hazard is purely theoreticalhas anyone seen this complication? We wonder if it is safer to obtain an x-ray and avoid trephining a subungual haematoma if a fracture is present.

False-Positive Meckel's Diverticulum Scan of Nonpathologic Origin
Numerous articles have been published concerning the reliability and usefulness of 9 9 m Tcpertechnetate scanning to diagnose Meckel's diverticulum. The Meckel's diverticulum is an appendage of the ileum near the cecum. To be demonstrated by scanning, the Meckel's diverticulum must contain gastric mucosa which will actively concentrate and secrete the 9 9 m Tcpertechnetate. Meckel's diverticulu...
متن کاملSmall intestinal ulceration secondary to carcinoid tumour arising in a Meckel's diverticulum.
A solitary small intestinal ulcer associated with a carcinoid tumour in a nearby Meckel's diverticulum was found in a 77 year old man presenting with massive rectal bleeding. Angiography and a radioisotope study localised the bleeding to the ileum. At operation, the Meckel's diverticulum was identified, with bleeding from an ulcer just distal to it. Pathological examination revealed a small car...
متن کامل[Surgical treatment of Meckel's diverticulum].
The author analysed the results of operations on 19 patients with emergency diseases of the abdominal organs caused by pathological processes in Meckel's diverticulum. The inflammatory process in the diverticulum led to acute obstruction of the small intestine in 12, acute diverticulitis in 5, and peptic ulcer complicated by perforation of the intestinal wall in 2 patients. Two patients died in...
متن کامل[Meckel's diverticulum - a case report].
Meckel’s diverticulum is the most prevalent congenital anomaly of the gastrointestinal tract. It might remain completely asymptomatic or may mimic some disorders like Crohn’s disease, Appendicitis and peptic ulcer diseases. A Meckel’s diverticulum was found during routine dissection. A brief review of this anomaly, its embryological explanation, and probable clinical implications with its manag...
متن کاملDelayed imaging for detection of Meckel's diverticulum in Tc-99m pertechnetate scintigraphy
Tc-99m pertechnetate scintigraphy is the modality of choice for diagnosis of Meckel's diverticulum. Interpretation of Meckel's scan identifies a focal area of radiopharmaceutical uptake in the anterior abdomen similar to normal gastric mucosa. The activity must be of the same pattern and intensity as gastric uptake. We present a 13-year-old patient with gastrointest...
