Congenital absence of the cervical and petrous internal carotid artery with intercavernous anastomosis.

چکیده
Congenital absence of an internal carotid artery is a rare anomaly. Less than 1 00 cases have been reported in the English literature. It is usually associated with collateral flow to the involved vascular territory, so neurologic deficits are few. However, this anomaly is also associated with a high occurrence of intracranial aneurysms. We report two cases of absent internal carotid artery with collateral supply of blood through an anastomotic vessel arising from the cavernous region of the contralateral internal carotid artery. Both cases presented because of complications of associated aneurysms.

Agenesis of the internal carotid artery with intercavernous anastomosis.
We report a case of unilateral agenesis of the internal carotid artery with intercavernous anastomosis, a rare development anomaly. MR and carotid ultrasound, in association with clinical awareness, can be used to diagnose this condition.
متن کاملInternal carotid artery agenesis with stenosed intercavernous anastomosis: a case report
We report a rare case of internal carotid artery agenesis with stenosed intercavernous anastomosis. A 59-year-old male patient presented with a new infarction in the left basal ganglia. Magnetic resonance angiography and cerebral angiography showed that the right internal carotid artery disappeared from the origin to the foramen lacerum segment, and there was an anastomotic artery with severe s...

Artery Arising from the Internal Carotid Artery I read with interest the article by Chan et al. They stated that there was a rare congenital anastomosis between the vertebral artery (VA) and internal carotid artery (ICA) with an absence of communication between the common carotid and cervical ICA. I, however, diagnose that there was an acquired occlusion of the ICA at its origin with a developm...
متن کاملIntercavernous sinus dural arteriovenous fistula treated with transvenous coil embolization: a case report.
The blood supply to the region of the cavernous sinus is provided by interconnecting branches of the internal and external carotid arteries, and it is from these vessels that dural arteriovenous fistulas (DAVFs) arise. It is very rare that DAVFs are located at the intercavernous sinuses region; in this case, a proper localization of the fistulous site is of extreme importance in order to succes...
متن کاملCervical internal carotid artery pseudoaneurysm complicating malignant otitis externa: first case report.
Pseudoaneurysm of the internal carotid artery (ICA) is a rare complication of head and neck infections. To date, three cases of petrous ICA pseudoaneurysm have been described as a complication of otogenic infection, including only one secondary to malignant otitis externa. We present here the first case of cervical ICA pseudoaneurysm as a complication of malignant otitis externa, and stress the...
