Dipolar Interaction in 2d Honeycomb Magnets

چکیده
The classical ground state of a system of dipoles arranged on a 2D honeycomb lattice is rigorously shown to be a (1/3,−1/3) structure. This configuration exhibits a continuous degeneracy with respect to rotations of the two hexagonal sublattices in opposite directions. These results are in agreement with observations on ErBr3, suggesting that dipolar interactions are dominant in the latter compound.

Theory of antiskyrmions in magnets
Skyrmions and antiskyrmions are swirling topological magnetic textures realized as emergent particles in magnets. A skyrmion is stabilized by the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction in chiral magnets and/or a dipolar interaction in thin film magnets, which prefer the twist of the magnetic moments. Here we show by a numerical simulation of the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation that pairs of skyrmio...

Recently, the ordering of pyrochlore magnets consisting of corner-sharing network of tetrahedra has attracted much attention due to an intrinsic effect of geometrical frustration. Intensive studies were performed in particular on “spin-ice” magnets, e.g., Ho2Ti2O7 and Dy2Ti2O7, which possesses a strong Ising-like < 111 > magnetic anisotropy and exhibits an intriguing glassy behavior analogous t...
متن کاملDipolar anisotropy in quasi-2D honeycomb antiferromagnet MnPS3
The nature of the anisotropy in magnetic systems which show isotropic Heisenberg exchange is crucial in determining their magnetic properties. This is particularly true in low-dimensional systems in which the very existence of long-range order depends on the anisotropy. The honeycomb lattice MnPS3 system has been studied as an example of a magnetically quasi-two-dimensional system of unusual sy...
متن کاملDescribing an exotic magnetic transition
Making magnetic atoms interact Two magnets interact with each other through a force that depends on the distance between them and on their mutual orientation. How do these long-range dipolar forces affect the behavior of a system of many magnets? Baier et al. used a gas of erbium atoms, which have a large magnetic moment, to answer this question. The gas—which they “housed” in an optical lattic...
متن کامل0 Se p 20 10 Magnetic impurities in the honeycomb Kitaev model
We study the effect of coupling magnetic impurities to the honeycomb lattice spin−1/2 Kitaev model in its spin liquid phase. We show that a spin-S impurity coupled to the Kitaev model is associated with an unusual Kondo effect with an intermediate coupling unstable fixed point Kc ∼ J/S separating topologically distinct sectors of the Kitaev model. We also show that the massless spinons in the s...
