TV Corvi Revisited: Precursor and Superhump Period Derivative Linked to the Disk Instability Model
نویسنده
چکیده
We report optical photometric observations of four superoutbursts of the short-period dwarf nova TV Crv. This object experiences two types of superoutbursts; one with a precursor and the other without. The superhump period and period excess of TV Crv are accurately determined to be 0.065028 ± 0.000008 d and 0.0342 ± 0.0021, respectively. This large excess implies a relatively large mass ratio of the binary components (M2/M1), though it has a short orbital period. The two types of superoutbursts can be explained by the thermal-tidal instability model for systems having large mass ratios. Our observations reveal that superhump period derivatives are variable in distinct superoutbursts. The variation is apparently related to the presence or absence of a precursor. We propose that the superhump period derivative depends on the maximum disk radius during outbursts. We investigate the relationship of the type of superoutbursts and the superhump period derivative for known sources. In the case of superoutbursts without a precursor, superhump period derivatives tend to be larger than those in precursor-main type superoutbursts, which is consistent with our scenario.

Superhumps of CC Cancri Revisited
We observed the 2001 November superoutburst of CC Cnc. This observation makes the first detailed coverage of a superoutburst of this object. The best-determined mean superhump period is 0.075518±0.000018 d, which is 2.7% longer than the reported orbital period. This fractional superhump excess is a quite typical value for a normal SU UMa-type dwarf nova, excluding the previously raised possibil...
متن کاملA 6 . 3 - h superhump in the cataclysmic variable TV Columbae : the longest yet seen
We present results from a two week multi-longitude photometric campaign on TV Col held in 2001 January. The data confirm the presence of a permanent positive superhump found in re-examination of extensive archive photometric data of TV Col. The 6.3-h period is 15 per cent longer than the orbital period and obeys the well known relation between superhump period excess and binary period. At 5.5-h...
متن کاملCol Have the longest Recorded Positive Superhumps ?
Re-examination of extensive photometric data of TV Col reveals evidence for a permanent positive superhump. Its period (6.4 h) is 16 percent longer than the orbital period and obeys the well known relation between superhump period excess and binary period. At 5.5h, TV Col has an orbital period longer than any known superhumping cataclysmic variable and, therefore, a mass ratio which might be ou...
متن کاملThe statistical significance of the superhump signal in U Gem
Context. Although its well determined mass ratio of q = Msec/Mwd = 0.357 ± 0.007 should avoid superoutbursts according to the thermal tidal instability model, the prototypical dwarf nova U Gem experienced in 1985 an extraordinary long outburst resembling very much superoutbursts observed in SU UMa systems. Recently, the situation for the model became even worse as superhump detections have been...
متن کاملHelical Tomography of an Accretion Disk by Superhump Light Curves of the 2001 Outburst of WZ Sagittae
A new method for analyzing complex superhump light curves for the 2001 outburst of WZ Sagittae is proposed. The complexity arises because intrinsically time-varying and non-axisymmetric distributions of superhump light sources are coupled with the aspect effects around the binary orbital phase because of its high orbital inclination. The new method can disentangle these complexities by separati...
