Charging schemes for reservation-based networks

چکیده
The definition of an adequate charging scheme for reservation-based multi-service networks and internetworks is one of the key factors destined to influence the wide use and deployment of these networks in the next decades. This paper presents some of the authors' ideas on this subject and is intended to be a framework on which future works in this area can be based. It comprises an approach to the design of a charging scheme and a first proposal for a charging formula. The approach is based on the fundamental belief that, in the context of reservation-based networks, there should be a direct relationship between user fees and network resources utilisation. The scheme can be applied both to multi-service networks like ATM ones and to such internetworks as the Integrated Services Internet. Charging Schemes for Reservation-based Networks

Charging and Accounting Technology for the Internet The CATI Project:
Recent studies show that much of Electronic Commerce activities will be conducted via the Internet, such activities encompassing business-business as well as client-business and administration-business relationships. However, the Internet has not been designed to support such activities and it lacks many features, as Quality of Service requirements or Charging and Accounting facilities. At the ...
متن کاملCharging of Multimedia Flows in an Integrated Services Network
Admission to communication services for multimedia applications does not imply purely technical control, it has to integrate economic admission policies as well. This is mainly due to the fact that multimedia communication services within the Internet cannot be assigned in a cooperative fashion as they represent bandwidth-hungry applications. Internet economics make various assumptions on prici...

Current pricing and charging methods for the Internet are not based on actual usage of this service which leads to unfairness and more important, it does not deliver the right signals through financial incentives to network providers to upgrade critical links of their networks. The development of new multimedia applications and the convergence to an integrated services network will foster the t...
متن کاملImproving LoRaWAN Performance Using Reservation ALOHA
LoRaWAN is one of the new and updated standards for IoT applications. However, the expected high density of peripheral devices for each gateway, and the absence of an operative synchronization mechanism between the gateway and peripherals, all of which challenges the networks scalability. In this paper, we propose to normalize the communication of LoRaWAN networks using a Reservation-ALOHA (R-A...
متن کاملAn Empirical Study on Route Reservation in Inter-Networks
While it is obvious that transmission without route reservation is suitable for a wired data network such as Internet, it is not clear whether this is true in the case of ad hoc wireless networks. To the best of our knowledge, this has not been studied in the literature. In this paper, we investigate the performance of two switching paradigms: reservation-based (RB) and non-reservation based (N...
