چکیده

T here are no evidence based studies dealing with the incidence of venous sheath related thrombosis and the role of heparin, particularly in the setting of prolonged procedures with multiple lines. The clinical importance of catheter related thrombosis remains undefined in the setting of electrophysiological studies (EPS). We sought to determine the incidence of multiple venous sheath related thrombosis and the role of fixed dose, body weight independent, low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) for prophylaxis of venous thrombosis in patients undergoing EPS.

Predictors of local venous complications resulting from electrophysiological procedures.

BACKGROUND Thromboembolic complications resulting from radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) have an overall incidence of 0.6%. Multiple intracardiac catheters are often necessary for electrophysiological study and RFCA therapy. Therefore, the placement of multiple venous sheaths in one femoral vein is always required for multiple intracardiac catheter insertion. The safety of the placement o...

Pulmonary embolism as a complication of an electrophysiological study: a case report.

BACKGROUND Electrophysiological studies have become an established practice in the evaluation and treatment of arrhythmias. Symptomatic pulmonary embolism as a result of deep vein thrombosis arising from multiple venous sheath femoral vein catheterization is an uncommon complication associated with it. We report the case of a 33-year-old woman who developed pulmonary embolism after an electroph...

Neonatal Thrombosis: Incidence and Risk Factors in a Tertiary Care Hospital in Iran

Background: Neonatal thrombosis is one of the most important challenges among patients admitted in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), which can lead to an asymptomatic condition, limb loss or even death. This study was performed to determine the incidence and risk factors of neonatal thrombosis in a tertiary care hospital in Tehran, Iran. Material and Methods: In this historical cohort, all n...

Migration of femoral vein thrombus to the right ventricle: an undesiderable complication in patients undergoing electrophysiological procedures.

A 44-year-old obese man with a history of type 2 diabetes underwent electrophysiological study due to recurrent short-lasting episodes of palpitations and documented paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia. After introduction of two venous sheaths into both the common femoral veins a slow–fast atrioventricular nodal re-entrant tachycardia (AVNRT) was induced, and the slow pathway was ablated un...

May-Thurner syndrome, an uncommon diagnosis for a common disease: a case report and review of the literature

May-Turner syndrome is a relatively uncommon anatomical variation in which patients develop iliofemoral deep vein thrombosis (DVT) due to venous occlusion. In this syndrome, the left common iliac vein is compressed against the fifth lumbar vertebra by the right common iliac artery. The real incidence/prevalence of May-Turner syndrome is not precisely known, but it is estimated to be between 22 ...
