چکیده

Probiotic bacteria are defi ned by FAO/WHO as “Live microorganisms which when administered in adequate amount confer a health benefi t” (Fuller, 1986; Reid et al., 2005). Probiotics are characterized by numerous antagonistic effects against the Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens. In addition, probiotics are also believed to reduce the risk of disorders from bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract (Dunne, 2001) and prevent diarrhea (Fuller, 1991; Fuller and Gibson, 1997; Goldin, 1998). A number of requirements have been identifi ed for a bacterial strain to be a potential probiotic such as human origin (Dunne et al., 2001; Fuller, 1989), ability to survive through the gastrointestinal tract, competition of adhesion to the epithelium in the gastrointestinal tract and production of antibacterial J. Bacteria are fundamentally divided into two groups, Gram-positive and -negative, based on the chemical and physical properties of their cell walls. The classic Gram stain reaction permits the useful distinction between Gram-positive and -negative bacteria. Gram staining results largely affect the initial classifi cation of an unknown bacterium and the selection of follow-up identifi cation proc...

In these decades biocontrol, or biological control, is an alternative mean to control plant diseases. In several fungal biocontrol agents, GMC oxidoreductases are involved in biocontrol activity. For example, in Talaromyces fl avus (Klöcker) Stolk and Samson, a glucose oxidase (AAB09442), a member of GMC oxidoreductase, is involved in its biocontrol activity of Verticillium dahliae Klebahn (Sto...

Sour congee, a traditional fermented cereal gruel, has been consumed for hundreds of years in the western regions of Inner Mongolia in China. The preparation procedure for sour congee could be generalized across different regions. Cereal grains, mainly millet and rice (sometimes blended with a little maize) are soaked with clean water in a pot at room temperature (about 25°C) for 3‒4 days. Duri...

In the past three decades, several methods have been reported for the growth of yeast spheroplasts in liquid culture. When spheroplasts of Saccharomyces cerevisiae were inoculated in rich medium containing 0.4 M KCl as an osmotic stabilizer and cultured for 7‒8 h with occasional manual shaking, they entered the fi rst round of mitosis at low cell density. Spheroplasts inoculated at higher cell ...
