چکیده
Th e aim of the present study was to evaluate the eff ect of ovine placenta extract, obtained by affi nity chromatography on immobilized wheat germ lectin, on mammogenesis, lactogenesis, and galactopoiesis in pregnant and lactating sheep. Placental extract (100 μg/mL protein concentration) was subcutaneously injected to pregnant sheep in days 1, 4, 7, 10, and 13 of the experiment (totally 10 mL placenta extract/animal) alternatively on the right and left side of the neck. Placental extract induced a more intense development of udder parameters; udder circumference increase was of 16.73%, anteroposterior length increase was of 15.9%, and latero-lateral length of 11.1%. Placental extract administration resulted in 7.92% increase in milk yield. Lactating ewes were monitored for milk production for 6 days before the experiment, aft er placental extract administration from day 7 to day 14 of the experiment, twice a day, and they presented 14.14% higher milk yield in comparison with the control group, no signifi cant diff erences in milk lactose and protein content, but an increase in milk fat (6.2%). It may be concluded that the glycoprotein or glycopeptide isolated from sheep placenta by affi nity chromatography on wheat germ lectin increased mammogenesis, lactogenesis, and galactopoiesis in sheep.

The expression of the IGF family and GH receptor in the bovine mammary gland.
To study the involvement of the IGFs in mammary development and lactation of the cow, the temporal expressions of IGF-I and -II, its receptor type 1 (IGFR-1), IGF-binding proteins (IGFBPs)-1 to -6 and GH receptor (GHR) mRNA were examined. This was carried out for different stages of mammogenesis, lactogenesis, galactopoiesis and involution in the bovine mammary gland of 26 animals. Furthermore,...
متن کاملExpression and localisation of oestrogen and progesterone receptors in the bovine mammary gland during development, function and involution.
It is now well established that oestrogen and progesterone are absolutely essential for mammary gland development. Lactation can be induced in non-pregnant animals by sex steroid hormone treatment. Most of the genomic actions of oestrogens are mediated by two oestrogen receptors (ER)-alpha and ERbeta, and for gestagens in ruminants by the progesterone receptor (PR). Our aim was the evaluation o...

Background and purpose: The anxiety and birth-related biological stresses lead to delayed onset of lactogenesis stage II and early termination of breastfeeding. This study aimed to determine the effect of continuous support during labor on the onset of lactogenesis stage II in primiparas. Materials and methods This randomized clinical trial study included 80 primigravida women attending ...
متن کاملMicroRNA roles in signalling during lactation: an insight from differential expression, time course and pathway analyses of deep sequence data
The study examined microRNA (miRNA) expression and regulatory patterns during an entire bovine lactation cycle. Total RNA from milk fat samples collected at the lactogenesis (LAC, day1 [D1] and D7), galactopoiesis (GAL, D30, D70, D130, D170 and D230) and involution (INV, D290 and when milk production dropped to 5 kg/day) stages from 9 cows was used for miRNA sequencing. A total of 475 known and...
متن کاملProlactin and Other Protein Hormones in Milk 1 ,2
Pituitary prolactin has been quantified by radioimmunoassay in whole milk obtained from cattle, goats, sheep and rats. Prolactin concentrations in milk samples obtained following the completion of lactogenesis approximate concentrations of the hormone in blood plasma or serum. However, concentrations of prolactin in prepartum mammary secretions were much higher than plasma prolactin in prepartu...
