Hematoma formation in deep plane rhytidectomy.

چکیده
Hematoma formation following rhytidectomy procedure is unfortunately common and one of the more devastating complications that can occur. Various reports have cited the incidence of hematoma formation using the superficial musculoaponeurotic system-platysma technique; but, to our knowledge, no report has specifically addressed the incidence of hematoma formation following deep plane rhytidectomies. We retrospectively reviewed the medical records and deep plane rhytidectomy worksheets of 451 consecutive deep plane rhytidectomies preformed at one institution by one surgeon. The incidence of major hematoma was 2.2% (10/451) and of minor hematoma was 6.65% (30/451). All hematomas that did occur did so in the subcutaneous plane of dissection. There were no facial hematomas. Arch Facial Plast Surg. 2000;2:240-242

Hematoma rates in drainless deep-plane face-lift surgery with and without the use of fibrin glue.
OBJECTIVE To determine the rate of hematoma formation in drainless deep-plane rhytidectomy and compare it with the rate using the same technique with the use of fibrin glue. METHODS This is a retrospective review of 605 patients (78 male and 527 female) who, over a 6-year period, underwent deep-plane face-lift surgery (n = 544) or lateral superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS)ectomy (n ...

OBJECTIVES To quantify the degree of submental platysmal tightening that can be accomplished with superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) plication vs deep-plane rhytidectomy techniques in a cadaveric anatomical study to help dictate the need for midline platysmal surgery when using different rhytidectomy techniques. METHODS The lateral distraction of the medial edge of the platysma musc...

متن کاملWhat is the best method for minimizing the risk of hematoma formation after rhytidectomy?
BACKGROUND Since its introduction in the early 1900s, rhytidectomy, or “facelift,” has been one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery for treatment of the aging face. Despite tremendous advancements in surgical technique and technology, the risk of hematoma remains significant as the most frequently encountered postoperative complication...
