Neurons and Behavior: Ex Uno, Plures
نویسندگان
چکیده
Li et al. demonstrate that a single interneuron can regulate analog- and digital-like behaviors guided by two different postsynaptic neurons. Releasing a single neurotransmitter onto downstream neurons that express receptors with distinct biophysical properties enables a small set of neurons to direct a range of functional responses.

E pluribus unum, ex uno plura: quantitative and single-gene perspectives on the study of behavior.
Genetic studies of behavior have traditionally come in two flavors: quantitative genetic studies of natural variants and single-gene studies of induced mutants. Each employed different techniques and methods of analysis toward the common, ultimate goal of understanding how genes influence behavior. With the advent of new genomic technologies, and also the realization that mechanisms underlying ...
متن کاملEx Uno Plures: Clonal Reinforcement Drives Evolution of a Simple Microbial Community
A major goal of genetics is to define the relationship between phenotype and genotype, while a major goal of ecology is to identify the rules that govern community assembly. Achieving these goals by analyzing natural systems can be difficult, as selective pressures create dynamic fitness landscapes that vary in both space and time. Laboratory experimental evolution offers the benefit of control...
متن کاملTranscranial Focused Ultrasound Modulates Electrical Behavior of the Neurons: Design and Implementation of a Model
Background: Recently, ultrasonic neuromodulation research has been an important and interesting issue. Ultrasonic neuromodulation is possible by the use of low-intensity transcranial focused ultrasound (tFUS) to stimulate or inhibit the neural structures. The primary capability of this method is the improvement in the treatment progress of certain neurological and psychiatric disorders noninvas...

This paper attempts to inquiry the connections between hemispherical laterality and reading-writing performance, based on the theory that Samuel T. Orton established over 60 years ago. No evidence has been found to show a significant correlation between both constructs. Therefore, the widely held belief that the one depends on the other can be refuted. Resumen Este estudio trata de indagar qué ...
