Management of invasive fungal infections in neutropenic patients.

چکیده
Invasive fungal infections (IFIs) are a well known, lifethreatening complication of neutropenia in haematologic patients. However, IFIs also affect various types of non-neutropenic patients, particularly those admitted in the hospital in critical conditions [1]. Candida spp. infections are mainly documented in intensive care units (ICUs), especially in patients undergone to major surgery, receiving broad spectrum antibiotic therapy and having a long ICU stay. Invasive Aspergillosis have been reported in pts treated with steroid therapy due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disorders with severe respiratory failure, in pts with severe liver failure, in solid organ transplant pts and a few cases have been also documented as a complication of H1N1 influenza virus infection. The population of patients admitted in ICUs is extremely heterogeneous in terms of age and degree of risk of infection. The range goes from otherwise young and healthy multiple trauma patients to heavily immunocompromised patients. Management of invasive fungal infections in non-neutropenic patients

Pattern of Bacterial and Fungal Infections in Neutropenic Pediatric Patients
Backgrounds: Neutropenia can be associated with life-threatening infections. Gram negative and staphylococcal infections are the most common pathogens. The spectrum of bacterial isolates has changed considerably over the past four decades. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the pattern of bacterial and fungal infections in neutropenic pediatric patients. Methods: A non-randomize...
متن کاملCandida infections among neutropenic patients
Background: Systemic candidiasis is a major complication in neutropenic cancer patients undergoing treatment. Most systemic fungal infections emerge from endogenous microflora so the aim of the present study was to identify Candida species isolated from the different regions of body in neutropenic patients in compare with the control group. Methods: A total of 309 neutropenic can...
متن کاملNew developments in the diagnosis and management of invasive fungal infections.
Invasive fungal infections in cancer patients are on the increase. Candidemia is now the fourth leading cause of bloodstream infections in many intensive care units (ICUs). Although a number of risk factors have been identified, antifungal therapy should not be started in non-neutropenic patients until a diagnosis of invasive candidiasis or candidemia is made or presumed in order to avoid the d...
متن کاملInvasive fungal infections in neutropenic enterocolitis: A systematic analysis of pathogens, incidence, treatment and mortality in adult patients
BACKGROUND Neutropenic enterocolitis is a life-threatening complication most frequently occurring after intensive chemotherapy in acute leukaemias. Gramnegative bacteria constitute the most important group of causative pathogens. Fungi have also been reported, but their practical relevance remains unclear. The guidelines do not address concrete treatment recommendations for fungal neutropenic e...
متن کاملGranulocyte colony-stimulating factor-primed leukocyte transfusions in candida tropicalis fungemia in neutropenic patients.
Optimal management of fungemia in neutropenic patients is still controversial. Several reports have already stressed the poor prognosis in invasive candidiasis (80% mortality in several reports). Therefore granulocyte transfusions would appear to be useful in the management of these infections. We report the use of rhG-CSF-primed granulocyte transfusions plus amphotericin B in two neutropenic p...
