Using Animation to Visualize Complex Motions in Experimental Data

Pattern formation is an important and complex phenomenon in the physical sciences. Structures form, grow, interact, move and disorganize in unpredictable ways on widely-varying temporal and spatial scales. Often the motions are too subtle or too complicated to be discerned from direct viewing of the experimental system. This work uses image processing of long video clips to extract information about such structures. The complex interactions of these structures are then visualized using computer animation.
