Evolution of Magnetic Helicity and Energy Spectra of Solar Active Regions
نویسنده
چکیده
We adopt an isotropic representation of the Fourier-transformed two-point correlation tensor of the magnetic field for estimating magnetic energy and helicity spectra as well as current helicity spectra of individual active regions and the change of their spectral indices with the solar cycle. The departure of the spectral index of current helicity from 5/3 is analyzed, and it is found that it is lower than that of magnetic energy. There is no obvious relationship between the change of the normalized magnetic helicity and the integral scale of the magnetic field for individual active regions. The evolution of the spectral index reflects the development and distribution of various scales of magnetic structures in active regions. It is found that around solar maximum the magnetic energy and helicity spectra are steeper. Subject headings: Sun: activity—Sun: magnetic topology—Sun: photosphere—Sun: dynamo

Magnetic Energy and Helicity Budgets in the Active-Region Solar Corona. I. Linear Force-Free Approximation
We self-consistently derive the magnetic energy and relative magnetic helicity budgets of a three-dimensional linear force-free magnetic structure rooted in a lower boundary plane. For the potential magnetic energy we derive a general expression that gives results practically equivalent to those of the magnetic Virial theorem. All magnetic energy and helicity budgets are formulated in terms of ...

We compute magnetic helicity and energy spectra of the solar active region NOAA 11158 during 11–15 February 2011 at 20 southern heliographic latitude using observational photospheric vector magnetograms. We adopt the isotropic representation of the Fourier-transformed two-point correlation tensor of the magnetic field. The sign of magnetic helicity turns out to be predominantly positive at all ...

STUDY OF MAGNETIC HELICITY IN SOLAR ACTIVE REGIONS AND ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH SOLAR ERUPTIONS by Sung-Hong Park It is generally believed that eruptive phenomena in the solar atmosphere such as solar flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs) occur in solar active regions with complex magnetic structures. The magnetic complexity is quantified in terms of twists, kinks, and interlinkages of magnetic...
متن کاملEvolution and Distribution of Current Helicity in Full-sun Simulations
Current helicity quantifies the location of twisted and sheared non-potential structures in a magnetic field. We simulate the evolution of magnetic fields in the solar atmosphere in response to flux emergence and shearing by photospheric motions. In our global-scale simulation over many solar rotations the latitudinal distribution of current helicity develops a clear statistical pattern, matchi...
متن کاملCurrent Helicity and Twist as Two Indicators of The Mirror Asymmetry of Solar Magnetic Fields
A comparison between the two tracers of magnetic field mirror asymmetry in solar active regions, twist and current helicity, is presented. It is shown that for individual active regions these tracers do not possess visible similarity while averaging by time over the solar cycle, or by latitude, reveals similarities in their behaviour. The main property of the dataset is anti-symmetry over the s...
