Efficient Device Pairing Using "Human-Comparable" Synchronized Audiovisual Patterns

چکیده
“Pairing” is referred to as the operation of achieving authenticated key agreement between two human-operated devices over a shortor medium-range wireless communication channel (such as Bluetooth, WiFi). The devices are ad hoc in nature, i.e., they can neither be assumed to have a prior context (such as pre-shared secrets) with each other nor do they share a common trusted onor off-line authority. However, the devices can generally be connected using auxiliary physical channel(s) (such as audio, visual) that can be authenticated by the device user(s), and thus form the basis for pairing. One of the main challenges of device pairing is the lack of good quality output interfaces (e.g., a speaker, display) as well as receivers (e.g., a microphone, camera) on both devices. In this paper, we present a new pairing scheme that is universally applicable to any pair of devices, supporting all possible pairing scenarios. Our scheme does not require devices to have good transmitters or any receivers, and is based upon the device user(s) comparing short and simple synchronized audiovisual patterns, such as in the form of “beeping” and “blinking”.

Pairing audio speech and various visual displays: binding or not binding?
Recent findings demonstrate that audiovisual fusion during speech perception may involve pre-phonetic processing. The aim of the current experiment is to investigate this hypothesis using a pairing task between auditory sequences of vowels and non speech visual cues. The audio sequences are composed of 6 auditory French vowels alternating in pitch (or not) in order to build 2 interleaved stream...
متن کاملEfficient Visual Search from Synchronized Auditory Signals Requires Transient Audiovisual Events
BACKGROUND A prevailing view is that audiovisual integration requires temporally coincident signals. However, a recent study failed to find any evidence for audiovisual integration in visual search even when using synchronized audiovisual events. An important question is what information is critical to observe audiovisual integration. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS Here we demonstrate that te...
متن کاملImplicit auditory modulation on the temporal characteristics of perceptual alternation in visual competition.
Visual competition refers to the spontaneous change of the subjective perception of ambiguous visual patterns. We investigated how implicit and explicit auditory inputs affect the temporal characteristics of perceptual alternation and the interpretation bias in ambiguous visual patterns. Participants traced the perceived direction of apparent visual motion, while two task-irrelevant auditory to...
متن کاملAudiovisual presentation of video-recorded stimuli at a high frame rate.
A method for creating and presenting video-recorded synchronized audiovisual stimuli at a high frame rate-which would be highly useful for psychophysical studies on, for example, just-noticeable differences and gating-is presented. Methods for accomplishing this include recording audio and video separately using an exact synchronization signal, editing the recordings and finding exact synchroni...
متن کاملContext-specific effects of musical expertise on audiovisual integration
Ensemble musicians exchange auditory and visual signals that can facilitate interpersonal synchronization. Musical expertise improves how precisely auditory and visual signals are perceptually integrated and increases sensitivity to asynchrony between them. Whether expertise improves sensitivity to audiovisual asynchrony in all instrumental contexts or only in those using sound-producing gestur...
