Scanning Tunneling Spectroscopy of Bi2Sr2CuO61d: New Evidence for the Common Origin of the Pseudogap and Superconductivity

چکیده
Using scanning tunneling spectroscopy, we investigated the temperature dependence of the quasiparticle density of states of overdoped Bi2Sr2CuO6+δ between 275 mK and 82 K. Below Tc=10K, the spectra show a gap with well-defined coherence peaks at ±Δp≃12meV, which disappear at Tc. Above Tc, the spectra display a clear pseudogap of the same magnitude, gradually filling up and vanishing at T∗≃68K. The comparison with Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ demonstrates that the pseudogap and the superconducting gap scale with each other, providing strong evidence that they have a common origin. KUGLER, Martin, et al. Scanning tunneling spectroscopy of high-temperature superconductors
Tunneling spectroscopy has played a central role in the experimental verification of the microscopic theory of superconductivity in classical superconductors. Initial attempts to apply the same approach to high-temperature superconductors were hampered by various problems related to the complexity of these materials. The use of scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy (STM and STS) on the...
متن کاملScanning tunnelling microscopy imaging of symmetry-breaking structural distortion in the bismuth-based cuprate superconductors.
A complicating factor in unravelling the theory of high-temperature (high-T(c)) superconductivity is the presence of a 'pseudogap' in the density of states, the origin of which has been debated since its discovery. Some believe the pseudogap is a broken symmetry state distinct from superconductivity, whereas others believe it arises from short-range correlations without symmetry breaking. A num...
متن کاملTwo mechanisms of pseudogap formation in Bi-2201: Ev- idence from the c-axis magnetoresistance
– Measurements of the c-axis resistivity and magnetoresistance have been used to investigate the pseudogap (PG) behavior in Bi2+zSr2−x−zLaxCuOy (Bi-2201) crystals at various hole densities. While the PG opening temperature T ∗ increases with decreasing hole doping, the magnetic-field sensitivity of the PG is found to have a very different trend: it appears at lower temperatures in more underdop...
متن کاملFermi surface and pseudogap evolution in a cuprate superconductor.
The unclear relationship between cuprate superconductivity and the pseudogap state remains an impediment to understanding the high transition temperature (T(c)) superconducting mechanism. Here, we used magnetic field-dependent scanning tunneling microscopy to provide phase-sensitive proof that d-wave superconductivity coexists with the pseudogap on the antinodal Fermi surface of an overdoped cu...
متن کاملScanning tunnelling spectroscopy of superconductivity on surfaces of LiTi2O4(111) thin films
Unique superconductivity at surfaces/interfaces, as exemplified by LaAlO3/SrTiO3 interfaces, and the high transition temperature in ultrathin FeSe films, have triggered intense debates on how superconductivity is affected in atomic and electronic reconstructions. The surface of superconducting cubic spinel oxide LiTi2O4 is another interesting system because its inherent surface electronic and a...
