Bubble CPAP: can we predict success or failure?
نویسنده
چکیده
Current modalities of ventilatory assistance in the management of respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) in preterm infants range from continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) to various modes of mechanical ventilation. The use of CPAP has been associated with a lower incidence of chronic lung disease when used as the initial respiratory support. In contrast, mechanical ventilation has the potential to injure the airways and lung parenchyma.

Bubble CPAP for respiratory distress syndrome in preterm infants.
OBJECTIVES To ascertain the immediate outcome of preterm infants with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) on Bubble CPAP and identify risk factors associated with its failure. STUDY DESIGN Prospective analytical study. SUBJECTS Inborn preterm infants (gestation 28 to 34 weeks) admitted to the NICU with respiratory distress and chest X ray suggestive of RDS. INTERVENTION Bubble CPAP with b...
متن کاملEffect of Bubble and Ventilator-derived Continuous Positive Airway Pressure on the Management of Respiratory Distress Syndrome in Premature Neonates
Background: In this study, we aimed to compare ventilator-derived and bubble continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) in neonates with respiratory distress syndrome admitted to Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Vali-e-Asr Hospital, Birjand, Iran, in 2014. Methods: This cohort study was conducted among 68 patients assigned into two groups. The neonates in group A (32 infants) were treated with b...

BACKGROUND Respiratory distress is a leading cause of neonatal death in low-income and middle-income countries. CPAP is a simple and effective respiratory support modality used to support neonates with respiratory failure and can be used in low-income and middle-income countries. The goal of this study was to describe implementation of the Silverman-Andersen respiratory severity score (RSS) and...
متن کاملBubble CPAP - a primary respiratory support for respiratory distress syndrome in newborns.
In preterm infants with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), the application of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is associated with benefits in terms of reduced respiratory failure and reduced mortality. We conducted this prospective study to evaluate the effectiveness of bubble-CPAP as primary mode of respiratory support. Bubble CPAP was found to be safe and effective means of treati...
متن کاملA pilot study of comparison of BCPAP vs. VCPAP in preterm infants with early onset respiratory distress.
BACKGROUND Bubble continuous positive airway pressure (BCPAP) is a low-cost nasal CPAP delivery system with potential benefits for developing nations. The objective of the study was to compare the efficacy and safety of BCPAP with ventilator CPAP (VCPAP) in preterm neonates with moderate respiratory distress. METHODS In a pilot randomized controlled trial, 30 preterm neonates (gestation <37 w...
