چکیده
15 1. It has been reported that the increasing CO2 tension triggers the embryo to pip the air cell and 16 emerge from the egg. However, the mechanism by which higher CO2 concentrations during the 17 last few days of incubation affect chick physiology and the hatching process is unclear. This study 18 investigates the effect of CO2 concentrations up to 1% during pipping, on the onset and length of 19 the hatch window and chick quality. 20 2. Four batches of Ross 308 broiler eggs (600 eggs per batch) were incubated in two small scale 21 custom built incubators (Petersime NV). During the final three days of incubation, control eggs 22 were exposed to a lower CO2 concentration (0.3%), while the test eggs experienced a higher CO2 23 concentration program (peak of 1%). 24 3. There were no significant differences found in blood values, select organ weight and body weight. 25 There was also no difference in hatchability between control and test groups. However, a small 26 increase in the chick weight and the percentage of first class chicks was found in the test groups. 27 Furthermore, plasma corticosterone profiles during hatching were altered in embryos exposed to 28 higher CO2; however they dropped to normal levels at day 21. Importantly, the hatching process 29 was delayed and synchronised in the test group, resulting in a narrowed hatch window (HW) which 30 was 2.7 hours shorter and 5.3 hours later than the control group. 31 4. These results showed that exposing chicks to 1% CO2 concentration during pipping did not have 32 negative impact on physiological status of newly hatched chicks. In addition, it may have 33 significant impact on the physiological mechanisms of controlling hatching and have benefits for 34 health and welfare of chickens by reducing the waiting time after hatching. 35

Ontogenesis of the expression of prolactin receptor messenger ribonucleic acid during late embryogenesis in turkeys and chickens.
Changes in circulating levels of prolactin (PRL) and tissue content of PRL receptor (PRLR) messenger RNA (mRNA) in the liver, pancreas, kidney, and gonads (testis/ovary) were measured in turkey and chicken embryos from embryonic day (ED) 21 or ED15, respectively, to 1 d after hatch by real-time PCR. There were no differences between the sexes in chickens or turkeys. Both species had very simila...

In the present study, the levels of the hypoxia-inducible factors (hif-1, hif-2) transcripts were evaluated during development of an ancient fish species, Beluga sturgeon (Huso huso) in a normal oxygen environment. The transcripts of hif-1, hif-2 were detected in all developmental time-points of H. huso from embryos to juvenile fish. Changes in normalized hif-1, hif-2 mRNA expression by using t...
متن کاملGas exchange of the ostrich embryo during peak metabolism in relation to incubator design
Oxygen (O2) consumption and carbon dioxide (CO2) excretion of ostrich embryos were studied on 45 ostrich eggs in various stages of development. A closed respirometry system was used for eggs subjected to ≤ 10 days of incubation, while an open flow system was used for older eggs. A total of 102 measurements were made and repeat measurements on the same egg were treated as independent during stat...
متن کاملEPSA1 and VPF genes expression during embryonic and larval development period of Beluga, Huso huso
Background: The Endothelial PAS domain-containing protein 1 (EPSA1) is the key transcriptional regulator of hypoxic response and Vascular Permeability Factor (VPF) is an important growth factor for vascular development and angiogenesis. OBJECTIVES: In the present study, the levels of the EPSA1 coding gene and VPF transcripts were evaluated during Larval development of Beluga, Huso huso. METHODS...

The current study evaluated effects of hatch moment and immediate feed and water access within a 24-h hatch window on chicken growth and development. Five hundred four male chickens obtained from a 49-wk-old Ross 308 breeder flock were assigned to 72 cages based on hatching moment (early, midterm, or late; selected during periods of 475 to 481, 483 to 487, and 489 to 493 h after onset of incuba...
