Allelic and genotypic frequencies of ASIP and MC1R genes in four West African sheep populations

چکیده
In West Africa, consumers pay a major attention on the coat colour of the sheep due to religious and cultural reasons. White coated individuals reach selling prices up to three-fold higher than black coated sheep. The aim of this study was to ascertain the genotypic and allelic frequencies of MC1R and ASIP genes in order to assess possible implementation of breeding programmes focusing on the increase of the white coated sheep frequencies. A total of 113 individuals belonging to three Burkina Faso sheep breeds (Burkina-Sahel, Djallonké and Mossi) and one Niger sheep breed (Touareg) were genotyped for the MC1R and ASIP genes. The wild allele of the ASIP gene (A wt ; 54.30%) was the most frequent in the four West African sheep, particularly in Burkina-Sahel (85%) and Touareg breeds (80%). The dominant black E D allele was not identified in Burkina-Sahel and Touareg. Most of the analysed individuals were homozygous for wild MC1R allele (E + /E + ) with 100, 73.5, 59 and 100% frequency in Burkina-Sahel, Djallonké, Mossi and Touareg, respectively. The A wt /A wt was the most frequent genotype on the ASIP gene in the four West African breeds (80.53%). No individuals were homozygous for the deletion (allele A del ). Although, no routine methods for detection of the genetic basis of the recessive black coat colour patterns can be easily implemented, the current results suggest the feasibility of a selection programme aiming at decreasing the frequencies of the dominant black E D allele in Burkina Faso sheep breeds.

Allelic and Genotypic Distribution in Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) G.676A > G of Melanocortin-1 Receptor (MC1R) Gene in Indonesian Goat Breeds
The melanocortin-1 receptor (MC1R) gene has been investigated by many studies regarding the pigmentation variation in various species. In order to determine its allelic and genotypic distribution, we sequenced the goat MC1R gene from 78 individuals in ten populations (Gembrong, Senduro, Ettawa Grade, Boerawa, Boerka, Kosta, Samosir, Muara, Boer and Kacang). Direct sequencing m...
متن کاملGenotypic and Allelic Frequencies of IGF1 and IGF2 Genes in Broilers Analysed by Using PCR‐RFLP Techniques
A polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) test was performed to investigate the allele frequencies of the insulin-like growth factor (IGF1 and IGF2 genes) in 90 broilerchickens. A 793 bp fragment of IGF1 gene and 1146 bp fragment of IGF2 gene were amplified and digested with HinfI and Hsp92II restriction enzymes, respectively. Two types of alleles of A and B...
متن کاملCoat colours in the Massese sheep breed are associated with mutations in the agouti signalling protein (ASIP) and melanocortin 1 receptor (MC1R) genes.
Massese is an Italian dairy sheep breed characterized by animals with black skin and horns and black or apparent grey hairs. Owing to the presence of these two coat colour types, this breed can be considered an interesting model to evaluate the effects of coat colour gene polymorphisms on this phenotypic trait. Two main loci have been already shown to affect coat colour in sheep: Agouti and Ext...

This study was performed to investigate two polymorphic sites from Cyp19 gene (PvuII and MspI) and one polymorphic site from ERα gene (SnaBI) in four cattle breeds including Mazandarani, Taleshi, Sistani and Simmental. In overall 278 samples for CYP19 and 206 samples for ERα marker sites were genotyped using polymerase chain reactionsingle-strand conformation polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) procedure. ...
متن کاملMutations in different pigmentation genes are associated with parallel melanism in island flycatchers.
The independent evolution of similar traits across multiple taxa provides some of the most compelling evidence of natural selection. Little is known, however, about the genetic basis of these convergent or parallel traits: are they mediated by identical or different mutations in the same genes, or unique mutations in different genes? Using a combination of candidate gene and reduced representat...
