چکیده

Available large-scale prospective studies on adiposity and asthma used body mass index as an indicator of adiposity.1 Studies involving more accurate measures of adiposity, such as body fat percentage (BF%), are needed to confirm or contrast body mass index related results. Cardiorepiratory fitness is a strong predictor of morbidity and mortality,2 and the available literature suggests that moderate-high cardiorespiratory fitness reduces many of the health hazards associated with obesity.3 The present study aimed: 1) to examine whether cardiorespiratory fitness and/or BF% are associated with subsequent acquisition of asthma in adults; and 2) to test the hypothesis that a high cardiorespiratory fitness level can reduce the risk of incident asthma in individuals with excess adiposity.

Fitness and adiposity as predictors of functional limitation in adults.

BACKGROUND This study examined the associations of body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), and cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) with incident functional limitation (IFL) in adults. METHODS Patients (n = 2400), 30+ years [mean age, 45.2 (SD, 8.3); 12% women], completed a baseline health examination during 1979 to 1995. CRF was quantified by age-and sex-specific thirds for maximal tread...

Combined Impact of Cardiorespiratory Fitness and Visceral Adiposity on Metabolic Syndrome in Overweight and Obese Adults in Korea

BACKGROUND Obesity, especially visceral obesity, is known to be an important correlate for cardiovascular disease and increased mortality. On the other hand, high cardiorespiratory fitness is suggested to be an effective contributor for reducing this risk. This study was conducted to determine the combined impact of cardiorespiratory fitness and visceral adiposity, otherwise known as fitness an...

Cardiorespiratory fitness and its association with adiposity indices in young adults

OBJECTIVE This study investigated the relationship between cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) and adiposity in young adults. METHODS Data was collected from 133 students of a medical college of Pakistan. The study was conducted on young adults, aged 17-24 years, recruited from Jinnah Medical & Dental College, Karachi, between Aug-Dec, 2015. Queen's College Step Test was conducted to measure CRF ...

Association of cardiorespiratory fitness and adiposity with inflammatory biomarkers in young adults.

OBJECTIVES Cardiorespiratory fitness (fitness) has been inversely associated with inflammation, but whether the association is attributed to fitness itself or lower levels of adiposity remains uncertain in young adults. The purpose of this study was to determine the association of fitness and adiposity with inflammation in young adults. METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted with 88 pa...

Cardiorespiratory fitness and adiposity as mortality predictors in older adults.

CONTEXT Although levels of physical activity and aerobic capacity decline with age and the prevalence of obesity tends to increase with age, the independent and joint associations among fitness, adiposity, and mortality in older adults have not been adequately examined. OBJECTIVE To determine the association among cardiorespiratory fitness ("fitness"), adiposity, and mortality in older adults...
