Fluid-Structure Interaction Analysis of Flow-Induced Deformation in a Two-Phase, Neo-Hookean Marine Egg

چکیده
Coupled computational fluid dynamics and finite element analyses were used to determine the material properties of the egg and jelly layer of the sea urchin Arbacia punctulata. Prior experimental shear flow results were used to provide material parameters for these simulations. A Neo-Hookean model was used to model the hyperelastic behaviors of the jelly layer and egg. A simple compressive simulation was then performed, to compare the maximum von Mises stresses within eggs, with and without jelly layers. Results of this study showed that (1) shear moduli range from 100 to 160 Pa, and 40 to 140 Pa for an egg without a jelly layer, and jelly layer itself, respectively; and (2) the presence of the jelly layer significantly reduces maximum von Mises stress in an egg undergoing compression. Numerical Solution for Gate Induced Vibration Due to Under Flow Cavitation
Among the many force s to which hydraulic structures are exposed to, the forces induced by cavitation incident are of typical hydrodynamic unknown forces. The aim of this study is to define these forces as coupled fluid-structure interaction under two dynamic effects. The first dynamic effect which incorporates facilities for dealing with cavitation fluid is based on the appearance and bursting...
متن کاملFluid-structure interaction studies on marine propeller
Composite propellers offer high damping characteristics and corrosion resistance when compared with metal propellers. But the design of a hybrid composite propeller with the same strength of metal propeller is the critical task. For this purpose, the present paper focusses on fluid-structure interaction analysis of hybrid composite propeller with Carbon/Epoxy, R-Glass/Epoxy and S2-Glass/Epoxy t...

Micropipette aspiration (MA) technique has been widely used to measure the viscoelastic properties of different cell types. Cells experience nonlinear large deformations during the aspiration procedure. Neo-Hookean viscohyperelastic (NHVH) incompressible and compressible models were used to simulate the creep behavior of cells in MA, particularly accounting for the effect of compressibility, bu...
متن کاملConsistent formulation of solid dissipative effects in stability analysis of flow past a deformable solid
The linear stability of plane Couette flow past a deformable solid is analyzed in the creeping-flow limit with an objective towards elucidating the consequences of employing two widely different formulations for the dissipative stresses in the deformable solid. One of the formulations postulates that the dissipative stress is proportional to the strain-rate tensor based on the left Cauchy-Green...
متن کاملNumerical simulation of solid deformation driven by creeping flow using an immersed finite element method
An immersed finite element method for solid–fluid interaction is presented with application focus on highly deformable elastic bodies in a Stokes flow environment. The method is based on a global balance equation which combines the solid and fluid momentum balances, the fluid mass balance and, in weak form, the interface conditions. By means of an Updated Lagrangian description for finite elast...
