The Number of Nilpotent Semigroups of Degree 3
نویسندگان
چکیده
A semigroup is nilpotent of degree 3 if it has a zero, every product of 3 elements equals the zero, and some product of 2 elements is non-zero. It is part of the folklore of semigroup theory that almost all finite semigroups are nilpotent of degree 3. We give formulae for the number of nilpotent semigroups of degree 3 on a set with n ∈ N elements up to equality, isomorphism, and isomorphism or anti-isomorphism. Likewise, we give formulae for the number of nilpotent commutative semigroups on a set with n elements up to equality and up to isomorphism.

On finitely related semigroups
An algebraic structure is finitely related (has finite degree) if its term functions are determined by some finite set of finitary relations. We show that the following finite semigroups are finitely related: commutative semigroups, 3-nilpotent monoids, regular bands, semigroups with a single idempotent, and Clifford semigroups. Further we provide the first example of a semigroup that is not fi...
متن کاملThe semigroups of order 9 and their automorphism groups
We report the number of semigroups with 9 elements up to isomorphism or anti-isomorphism to be 52 989 400 714 478 and up to isomorphism to be 105 978 177 936 292. We obtained these results by combining computer search with recently published formulae for the number of nilpotent semigroups of degree 3. We further provide a complete account of the automorphism groups of the semigroups with at mos...
متن کاملClassification and enumeration of finite semigroups
The classification of finite semigroups is difficult even for small orders because of their large number. Most finite semigroups are nilpotent of nilpotency rank 3. Formulae for their number up to isomorphism, and up to isomorphism and anti-isomorphism of any order are the main results in the theoretical part of this thesis. Further studies concern the classification of nilpotent semigroups by ...
متن کاملA Characterization of Schmidt Groups Bb Their Endomorphism Semigroups
A Schmidt group is a non-nilpotent finite group in which each proper subgroup is nilpotent. Each Schmidt group G can be described by three parameters p, q and v, where p and q are different primes and v is a natural number, v ≥ 1. Denote by S the class of all Schmidt groups which have the same parameters p, q and v. It is shown in this paper that the class S can be characterized by the properti...
متن کاملOn classification of maximal nilpotent subsemigroups
We develop a general approach to the study of maximal nilpotent subsemigroups of finite semigroups. This approach can be used to recover many known classifications of maximal nilpotent subsemigroups, in particular, for the symmetric inverse semigroup, the symmetric semigroup, and the factor power of the symmetric group. We also apply this approach to obtain a classification of maximal nilpotent...
