Functional and metabolic imaging of the right ventricle: short-term caloric restriction increases myocardial triglyceride content and decreases diastolic heart function
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background Caloric restriction increases plasma non-esterified fatty acid (NEFA) levels, and increases myocardial triglyceride content. It has been shown that elevated levels of NEFA’s in patients with metabolic disease (metabolic syndrome/ type 2 diabetes mellitus) are associated with a decrease in left ventricular function. However little is known about its effects on right ventricular function. Therefore, the purpose of the present study was to evaluate myocardial metabolic flexibility in relation to right ventricular diastolic function in healthy volunteers after short-term caloric restriction.

Short-term caloric restriction induces accumulation of myocardial triglycerides and decreases left ventricular diastolic function in healthy subjects.
OBJECTIVE Diabetes and obesity are associated with increased plasma nonesterified fatty acid (NEFA) levels, myocardial triglyceride accumulation, and myocardial dysfunction. Because a very low-calorie diet (VLCD) also increases plasma NEFA levels, we studied the effect of a VLCD on myocardial triglyceride content and cardiac function in healthy subjects. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Fourteen h...

متن کاملMild and Short-Term Caloric Restriction Prevents Obesity-Induced Cardiomyopathy in Young Zucker Rats without Changing in Metabolites and Fatty Acids Cardiac Profile
Caloric restriction (CR) ameliorates cardiac dysfunction associated with obesity. However, most of the studies have been performed under severe CR (30-65% caloric intake decrease) for several months or even years in aged animals. Here, we investigated whether mild (20% food intake reduction) and short-term (2-weeks) CR prevented the obese cardiomyopathy phenotype and improved the metabolic prof...
متن کاملRight ventricular Hemodynamic Alteration after Pulmonary Valve Replacement in Children with Congenital Heart Disease
Introduction: In patients who underwent surgery to repair Tetralogy of Fallot, right ventricular dilation from pulmonary regurgitation may be result in right ventricular failure, arrhythmias and cardiac arrest. Hence, pulmonary valve replacement may be necessary to reduce right ventricular volume overload. The aim of present study was to assess the effects of pulmonary valve replacement on rig...

BACKGROUND A physiological model of increased plasma nonesterified fatty acid (NEFA) levels result in myocardial triglyceride (TG) accumulation, which is related to cardiac dysfunction. A pathophysiological model of increased plasma NEFA levels result in hepatic steatosis, which has been linked to abnormal myocardial energy metabolism. Hepatic steatosis is accompanied by hepatic inflammation, r...
