The Incidence of Alpha-Thalassemia in Iraqi Turks
نویسنده
چکیده
The frequency of alpha-thalassemia was 3.6% among Turkish newborns in a study that employed globin gene mapping analysis of DnA [4]. In our study, in 13 out of 205 cord blood samples alpha-thalassemia was found 6.3%. There was mistake at incidence so hat we improved with erratum [5]. The incidence of β-thalassemia trait was very high level, the incidence of a-thalassemia trait was also found high level (6.3%) in Antalya district.

متن کاملThe frequency of Factor V G1691A (Leiden) mutation in Iraqi Turks.
Factor V Leiden (FVL) mutation (G1691A) is a risk factor for the development of venous thromboembolic disorders. Hereditary disorders that predispose to thrombosis include antithrombin, protein C, and protein S deficiency, as well as such hereditary defects as Factor V G1691A (Leiden) (FVL) and prothrombin G20210A mutation [1,2]. FVL causes activated protein C resistance and is the most common ...

Background and purpose: Alpha thalassemia is one of the most common hemoglobin disorders. Some combination of alpha globin gene mutations may cause HbH disease with severe anemia or intermediate thalassemia. In this study we aimed to determine the spectrum of alpha globin gene mutations especially rare mutation at alpha carrier couples in Babolsar, north of Iran. Discovering this spectrum i...
متن کاملCan Trimodal Distribution of HbS Levels in Sickle Cell Traits Be Used To Predict the Associated Alpha-Thalassemia For Screening Cases in Central India?
Background: Until now, trimodal distribution of HbS has been seen by six different studies in the world when associated with alpha-thalassemia with confirmation by corresponding alpha-genotyping studies. The RBC indices reduce as alpha-globin genes reduce in sickle cell trait (SCT) patients, which decreases the extent of intra-vascular sickling and thus betters the clinical cou...
متن کاملMolecular Basis of α-Thalassemia in Iran
Alpha-thalassemia (α-thal) is probably the most prevalent monogenic condition in the world. Deletions are the most common types of mutations in α-thal, followed by point mutations and small insertion/deletion. In the context of national screening program for prevention of thalassemia and hemoglobinopathies in Iran, α-thal carriers have come to more attention. Therefore, the fr...
