Cortisone and hamster buccal pouch carcinogenesis.

چکیده
Ninety male Syrian hamsters, 3 months of age, were divided into 6 equal experimental groups of 15 animals. Two groups served as controls for 8and 16-week experimental periods. In the remaining 4 groups, the light buccal pouch was painted 3 times weekly with 9,10-dimethyl-l ,2-benzanthracene (DMBA) and sacrificed at 8 and 16 weeks. One 8-week and one 16-week experimental group were also injected 3 times weekly with 2.0 mg of cortisone acetate. It was found that in those animals receiving cortisone as well as DMBA applications, the development of initial dysplasia and of buccal |x>uch carcinomas was hastened. Although the tumors induced in the cortisone-DMBA animals were histologioally not more anaplastic than those in the DMBA animals, invasion of underlying connective tissue and muscle was more extensive and the tumors were considerably larger in size. Metastasis to regional lymph nodes was not observed in any of the groups.

Diurnal variation of gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase activity during DMBA-induced hamster buccal pouch carcinogenesis.
OBJECTIVE The aim of the present study is to assess the diurnal variation of gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT) during 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene (DMBA)-induced hamster buccal pouch carcinogenesis. MATERIALS AND METHODS The right buccal pouches of 108 Syrian golden hamsters, divided into three experimental groups, were treated three times weekly with 0.5% DMBA in mineral oil over an 11-w...
متن کاملEthanolic neem (Azadirachta indica) leaf extract induces apoptosis in the hamster buccal pouch carcinogenesis model by modulation of Bcl-2, Bim, caspase 8 and caspase 3.
Induction of apoptosis is one of the most active strategies in cancer chemoprevention and the ability of medicinal plants in this regard has attracted major research interest. The present study was designed to investigate the apoptosis inducing capacity of an ethanolic neem leaf extract (ENLE) during 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene (DMBA)-induced hamster buccal pouch carcinogenesis using the apo...
متن کاملChemopreventive and antioxidant efficacy of (6)-paradol in 7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene induced hamster buccal pouch carcinogenesis.
The present study evaluated the chemopreventive potential of (6)-paradol, a pungent phenolic constituent of ginger, on 7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene (DMBA)-induced hamster buccal pouch carcinogenesis. The mechanistic pathway for the chemopreventive potential of (6)-paradol was evaluated by measuring the status of tumor incidence, volume and burden as well as by analyzing the status of phase II...
متن کاملTumor Preventive Potential of Cromolyn in 7, 12- Dimethylbenz(a)anthracene Induced Hamster Buccal Pouch Carcinogenesis
Cromolyn explored diverse pharmacological effects including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anticancer properties. The cytotoxic or anti-cell proliferative potential of cromolyn has been well documented in various cancer cell lines. To date, there are no studies on the chemopreventive potential of cromolyn against 7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene (DMBA) induced oral carcinogenesis. The chemopr...
متن کاملProtective effect of sinapic acid against 7,12 dimethyl benz(a)anthracene induced hamster buccal pouch carcinogenesis
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the free radical scavenging and antioxidants in DMBA induced hamster buccal pouch carcinogenesis in golden Syrian hamsters. A total of 32 animals were divided into 4 groups of 8 animals each. Group I served as control and received normal saline only. Group II animals were painted with 0.5% DMBA with liquid paraffin three times a week for 16 weeks on ...
