Convergence analysis of a high-order Nyström integral-equation method for surface scattering problems
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper we present a convergence analysis for the Nyström method proposed in [Jour. Comput. Phys. 169 pp. 2921-2934, 2001] for the solution of the combined boundary integral equation formulations of sound-soft acoustic scattering problems in three-dimensional space. This fast and efficient scheme combines FFT techniques and a polar change of variables that cancels out the kernel singularity. We establish the stability of the algorithms in the L norm and we derive convergence estimates in both the L and L∞ norms. In particular, our analysis establishes theoretically the previously observed super-algebraic convergence of the method in cases in which the right-hand side is smooth.

A Nyström Method for a Class of Integral Equations on the Real Line with Applica- Tions to Scattering by Diffraction Gratings and Rough Surfaces
We propose a Nyström/product integration method for a class of second kind integral equations on the real line which arise in problems of two-dimensional scalar and elastic wave scattering by unbounded surfaces. Stability and convergence of the method is established with convergence rates dependent on the smoothness of components of the kernel. The method is applied to the problem of acoustic s...
متن کاملHigh-Order Locally Corrected Nyström Solution with Mixed-Order Basis Functions for Electromagnetic Scattering
A high-order locally-corrected Nyström (LCN) solution of a hybrid volume/surface integral equation is presented for the electromagnetic scattering by complex targets that consist of composite homogeneous and inhomogeneous materials and conducting objects. It is found that for general scattering objects, the use of mixed-order basis functions accelerates the convergence of the LCN solution, elim...
متن کاملA High-order Accurate Accelerated Direct Solver for Acoustic Scattering from Surfaces
We describe an accelerated direct solver for the integral equations which model acoustic scattering from curved surfaces. Surfaces are specified via a collection of smooth parameterizations given on triangles, a setting which generalizes the typical one of triangulated surfaces, and the integral equations are discretized via a high-order Nyström method. This allows for rapid convergence in case...
متن کاملPhysical Optics Calculation of Electromagnetic Scattering From Haack Series Nose Cone
In this paper, the physical optics method is used to study the problem of electromagnetic scattering from Haack series nose cone. First, a meshing scheme is introduced which approximates the curvature of the surface by piecewise linear functions in both axial and rotational directions. This results in planar quadrilateral patches and enables efficient determination of the illuminated region and...
متن کاملA Novel Integral Equation for Scattering by Locally Rough Surfaces and Application to the Inverse Problem
This paper is concerned with the direct and inverse acoustic or electromagnetic scattering problems by a locally perturbed, perfectly reflecting, infinite plane (which is called a locally rough surface in this paper). We propose a novel integral equation formulation for the direct scattering problem which is defined on a bounded curve (consisting of a bounded part of the infinite plane containi...
