∗ Work supported by the U.S. DOE Contract No. DE-AC02-76SF00515. Abstract In this paper, we present design considerations to address the high gradient, wakefields, and RF efficiency issues for the JLC/NLC structures. We will present the rationale for the choices of phase advance, structure length, structure aperture, and other design aspects in the optimization of the structure. We will study the impact of parameter choices for the JLC/NLC beam environment and discuss approaches being taken for an optimal JLC/NLC structure design.

The JLC/NLC Baseline Design
The JLC/NLC is a normal conducting linear collider based on X-band RF technology. The collider is designed to cover the center-of-mass energy range from 90 GeV to 1.3 TeV with a luminosity of 2 to 3 ×1034 cm−2s−1 between 500 GeV and 1 TeV. The X-band RF system, which is based on the operating NLC Test Accelerator X-band RF system, was recently modified in a way that will ensure a less expensive...

The NLC/JLC collaboration focuses its major effort on X-band linac technology which is the main part of a 1 TeV electron-positron linear collider.
متن کاملOverview of the X-band R&D Program∗
An electron/positron linear collider with a center-of-mass energy between 0.5 and 1 TeV is recognized as an important complement to the physics program of the LHC. The Next Linear Collider (NLC) is being designed by a US collaboration (FNAL, LBNL, LLNL, and SLAC) which is working closely with the Japanese collaboration that is designing the Japanese Linear Collider (JLC). The NLC/JLC main linac...

We summarize some of the main physics questions that will serve to define the linear ee collider program, and comment on issues that confront the world community in making such a collider a reality. The 1999 International Workshop on Linear Colliders (LCWS) at Sitges, Barcelona [1,2] demonstrated the wide range of physics opportunities at a 500 – 1000 GeV linear eecollider (LC). Since that time...
متن کاملOptimized Wakefield Suppression & Emittance Dilution-imposed Alignment Tolerances in X-band Accelerating Structures for the Jlc/nlc
In order to prevent electrical breakdown occurring in the JLC/NLC (Japanese Linear Collider/Next Linear Collider) X-band structures several new structures are under investigation. These accelerating structures represent an evolutionary design of the DDS series of structures [1]. The phase advance per cell has been varied and the detailed elliptical shape of the cell has been varied in order to ...
