A Survey of Evolutionary Crossover Operators as Applied to Phylogenetic Inferencing
نویسنده
چکیده
Inferring phylogenetic trees from sequence or morphological characters is computationally intensive, and requires the use of heuristics. The search space and fitness landscape of treespace for even modest datasets is large and multi-modal. Traditional computational approaches typically involve hill-climbing using intra-tree branch-swapping techniques such as subtree pruning and re-grafting (SPR) or tree bisection and reconnection (TBR) to propose incremental modifications to topology. Several genetic algorithms for phylogenetic inferencing have been proposed and implemented, all of which involve crossover operators to recombine putative building blocks in selected parent trees. In this paper, we survey four different crossover operators present in the literature. Specifically, we evaluate their expressiveness, destructiveness, ergodicity, and bias. An overall assessment of these distinct crossover approaches is summarized.

متن کاملOPTIMIZATION OF STEEL MOMENT FRAME BY A PROPOSED EVOLUTIONARY ALGORITHM
This paper presents an improved multi-objective evolutionary algorithm (IMOEA) for the design of planar steel frames. By considering constraints as a new objective function, single objective optimization problems turned to multi objective optimization problems. To increase efficiency of IMOEA different Crossover and Mutation are employed. Also to avoid local optima dynamic interference of mutat...

متن کاملA Distance-Based Information Preservation Tree Crossover for the Maximum Parsimony Problem
The Maximum Parsimony problem aims at reconstructing a phylogenetic tree from DNA sequences while minimizing the number of evolutionary changes. Known to be NP-complete, the MP problem has many applications. This paper introduces a Distance-based Information Preservation (DiBIP) Tree Crossover. Contrary to previous crossover operators, DiBIP uses a distance measure to characterize the semantic ...
متن کاملAN EFFICIENT CROSSOVER OPERATOR FOR TRAVELING SALESMAN PROBLEM
Crossover operator plays a crucial role in the efficiency of genetic algorithm (GA). Several crossover operators have been proposed for solving the travelling salesman problem (TSP) in the literature. These operators have paid less attention to the characteristics of the traveling salesman problem, and majority of these operators can only generate feasible solutions. In this paper, a crossover ...
